Viewing the many webcams today, much of the snow on top of the ice seems to be melting and all looks pretty slushy. That should start changing in the next 24 hours if the forecasts hold. (Rose, you still out there to provide an occasional update? We miss your insights)

Most of the ice holes I saw this past weekend were in the 8-12" range so, except where there is running water, I don't think anyone needs to worry about ice safety anytime soon.

We have about 15" of black ice in front of our place near Minge Cove, and although there's wet snow and slush on top it's very solid underneath.

New England Cable News (NECN) is predicting 20" - 30" of snow for much of NH between tonight and Friday morning!

We need all the snow that we can get to open up the snowmobile trails around here!.... Takes a lot more to do this than a lot of people think!

I think the Weather Channel showed a shot from near the Outlet Mall in Tilton. The bottom of the screen said Tilton, NH and it looke like the modular/mobile homes across the way.

Any snow yet?

The snow storm gave us much less snow than they were predicting yesterday. Here in West Alton we got about 8" today, but it's still snowing lightly and we're supposed to get a few additional inches overnight. The temperature hovered around freezing all day so it's the wet, heavy "concrete" type of snow we all hate to shovel.

Looks to be about a foot here in Belmont, according to the heaping on the bird feeder which is the easiest place for me to measure it. This is extremely heavy wet snow, and everything is bent over bearing the burden of it. The power lines to my house are still bowed heavily as I write this. Around 8:30 last night a few branches came crashing down from the huge Maples in our front yard. One hit the house and scared the life out of us! Fortunately no damage!!! Then at 9:00 the power went out. Stayed out till nearly 10:30. All is now well, and the shoveling out is underway. I can't wait to get to work and see what the wings of the airplane look like! Yikes!

You may need some of the de-icer the airports use!

I sure wish I could use the de-icer they use! If it's bad when I get there, I'm first going to have to rake down the roof, then when it's clear climb up on it and use a long snow broom to clean off the plane.

I haven't had to do this the past two winters, because we haven't had significant snowfall that was heavy, but judging by the look of the trees and power lines here at home, I'm in for a heavy job when I get there.

I'm outtahere - time to get to work!

We ended up with 8-10 inches at our house here just up off the lake above Keewaydin Park in Alton Bay. Lost power on Thurs nite at 9:15, got it back after 2PM friday. Great nite to sleep...first the recliner, then the love seat (great for a 6 footer to sleep on :( )...didn't want to sleep in the bed, because I'd never hear that alarm on my wristwatch at 5am.

got up on our roof and shovelled off the concrete snow (great term Don). http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/28/28_4_6.gif (http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb001_ZSXXXXXX42US) It was tough getting the truck up the ladder, though.
