I will never win the award for making the NHSA publication “Sno‐Traveler” deadline (sorry, I missed the last publication date)! I hope everyone had a great Holiday season and that the New Year brings health and happiness! We have received our first appreciable snowfalls of the
season during the last week of the year; unfortunately, we still need more before we can begin our grooming operations. There is good snowmobiling a bit further north. Here is some club news while we wait:

Trail Work: Our trail work is complete for the year. As usual it was a race to the finish line, but we were able to finish most of the work on our “to‐do” list. Eric Erving and John Anderson made a huge late season push on trail work and signing‐ thank you! Rod MacDonald was, as usual, a workhorse. Steve J and his crew were out many weekends. Thank you to all of those that went out and helped us prepare.
As you know, we solicit donations from our members for grooming/ trail prep on our application. Thank you to all of those that have sent us funds. PSNH just went through the power lines in town clearing trees and brush with an excavator mounted flail mower. It made a mess of the trails and, of course, it happened in early December as the ground started to freeze. We used some of the funds sent to us to hire a contractor to smooth the trail.

Volunteer Opportunities/ MSC Leadership: Like all snowmobile clubs in NH, the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club officers and directors are all volunteers. We still have the position of Vice president open and available.
We are also scheduled to update our by‐laws, so if you are an attorney or have a knack for that type of work, we welcome your advice and assistance.
Please contact me or any other club officer or director if you are interested in assisting in any way. We meet monthly during the season (Sept‐May) to conduct club business on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM at the Moultonborough Public Library. Members are always welcome at our meetings and encouraged to attend. Please see our club website moultonborosmc.org for contact information. We appreciate all of our club members and volunteers; you make the club what it is!

Thank you: I would also like to send a special thank you out to those members and past board members that continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to get trails signed, perform trail work, process membership applications and generally just do what needs to be done.

Land Owners: Please respect our land owner’s property as you cross their land. It is only because of their generosity and support that we have a trail system to ride on. If you know or see them, please express your gratitude!

Special Skills: We realize that our club is made of members with a wide variety of skill sets and interests. We are always looking for help in ways that do not include trail work. Attorneys, accountants, website designers, etc please consider assisting us from the comfort of your home or office.

Monthly Activities: (this section penned by Cathy Erving) The MSC Xmas Party was HUGE success this year! We had 78 people attending and everyone a great time. The Silent Auction, 50/50 Raffle and Live Auction were great fun, and brought in over $1000! We also collected over 100 lbs of food for the Center Harbor and Moultonboro food pantries!
Scott Ouellette and his crew at the Magic Foods Catering Facility did a beautiful job with the new function space, decorating, food, and service. A special thanks to Scott for his generosity in keeping the price reasonable for our members, and giving us the function space free of charge!
Scott currently owns/runs The Canoe, O Steakhouse in Laconia and Concord, and is a partner at the Woodshed. Be sure to stop by and see him and his crew, they always do a wonderful job!
Thanks to my invaluable helpers, without whom I wouldn’t have been able to pull this off: Jane Thurston for her tireless hours pounding the pavement for donors and helping with the auction, Cindy Lemien for her assistance from setup through cleanup, George Higgins for his computer wizardry in getting the many emails to the members, Karin Nerney for picking up auction items
and acting as new member welcome committee, and last but not least, my wonderful hubby, Eric, for being my right‐hand man in all things MSC and otherwise. You all are wonderful!
(And I (John Harrington) want to thank Cathy Erving for her hard work!)
We would also like to take a moment to thank the MANY generous businesses for donating auction items:

ideas for the holidays.
Happy Holidays and Happy New Year to everyone…see you in 2013 for more great social
events!

Progressive Ride: We have scheduled our annual progressive ride for February 9, 2013. For those unfamiliar with the ride, we travel as a group from one member’s house to the next while enjoying a dinner course at each home. We typically make 3‐5 stops. The locations are not set in stone as we have to wait for Mother Nature! Look for info on the sign and on the website.

Club Bonfire/ Pizza Party: We will also be holding a club bonfire on March 2, 2013. The club will be providing pizza, salad, water and soft drinks. The location is to be determined. I have volunteered to hold it at my house on Holland Street (our trail comes off Berry Pond). Details to follow. Look for info on the sign and on the website.

Snowmobile Safety Course: We held our annual 2012 Youth Snowmobile Class on Saturday December 15th at the Geneva Point Center. The Class will start at 8:00 AM and run to 3:30 PM. We had approximately 40 students attend, many with their parents. Lunch was provided by the Club and Steve Janaitis.
Thank you to Steve Janaitis and his crew (I know I will miss many but… The Hoyts, Eric Erving, the Higgins’, Pat Venuti, Vic Jones, Jack Bishop, John Anderson and Jerri Stuart).
I spoke with many attendees and parents‐ they enjoyed the class and got a lot out of it!

Trail Maps: Trail maps are available at many locations in town.

Finances: The Club is in very good condition financially with all of our bills and insurance payments made and up to date. We have set reserves aside for major repairs or overhauls to our grooming fleet.

Grooming: Our machines are ready to go along with their operators. We held a groomer safety meeting and class on December 15 with 7 attendees. Anyone interested in grooming, please let me know.

Reroutes: We have had a couple of minor reroutes that you should be aware of: 1) the Route 25 crossing near Fullers will be relocated to the other side of the gas station (please watch for signs as the state is still determining our best location) and 2) the 109 crossing at Arey’s trail has been changed to minimize snowmobile travel on the road.

Happy trails and safe riding to all!
