I recently obtained an early copy (1936) of Paul H Blaisdell's book "Three Centuries on Winnipesaukee" on eBay. As a summertime resident of Rattlesnake Island, I found his comments regarding the reason that no one had ever inhabited the island as of that point in time interesting. To be honest, I had always thought that the island was named because of its shape when viewed from The Broads but evidently this wasn't so. With the island's current 175 +/- homes....I wonder what Mr Blaisdell would think looking at the island now (77 years later)? At least the "medieval castle" that he feared was never built on the snake's highest point.
