Merry Christmas everyone!

I recently got engaged and was perusing the forums for good ideas for a reception venue on the lake (ON the lake, so no Castle). I am not interested in Mills Falls (overpriced) or the Wolfeboro Inn (too small), and would prefer to stay on the northern side of the lake (i.e. Meredith, Center Harbor, Moultonborough, or Wolfeboro). My guest list is well over 200, so need a place to fit about 250 guests. I'm really hoping I can just find a house on the lake with a large yard to throw up a tent and have a party.

Any brilliant ideas????

Thanks!

The only place I'm aware of is Brewster Academy, which has massive grounds with magnificent views directly on the Lake and could accommodate a tent with a crowd the size you have in mind. Link with photos and contact info:

There are also apparently large private manses on the Lake that will rent out their grounds for weddings and such, but you might have to go through a Wedding Planner for these venues because I suspect the owners would not want the hassle and risk of dealing with individuals. Here's a Wedding Planner site that claims access to such places (I have no knowledge of this company other than what they say on their website):

Congratulations, good luck, and if you find something please share here because folks often have questions about wedding sites.

You could try the Margate in Paugus Bay...they have a tent set up all summer.

http://i44.tinypic.com/1499wms.gif karenwils, I just noticed that you are fairly new to posting on the forum and glad you have joined us. Have fun and enjoy the Winni Forum while making many new friends. If you leave the request up long enough you will most likely get every possible location brought to your attention. Best of Luck.:)

The Kona Mansion in Moultonboro does weddings also.

If you want to be ON the Lake, you might consider the M/S Mount Washington.

Getting married in the lakes region and finding a venue on the lake is a tall order, especially since you have indicated a fairly large guest list. This probably means a lot of overnight rooms, and some places ask a two night minimum during the summer.

Somebody mentioned a wedding planner - very good idea, particularly if you are looking for this to happen in the summer of 2013.

Best of luck to you, and best wishes, and Happy New Year.

I would check this place out. They comfortably took a class reunion of about 200 recycled teenagers! :D

I'm sure you know that you know that there is a lot more to a wedding than "throwing up a tent and having a party" 200 people is no small number and you have to consider.parking, toilets, catering, transportation,e ntertainment, etc etc.
Also might be smart to have a plan "B" in case some bad weather shows up.
Good luck and I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you make a good plan.

Camp Guy has a good suggestion. If you want to really be ON the Lake, check out chartering the M/S Mount Washington. Call (603) 366-5531 and ask for Sami.

I would second Oliver's Lodge, they have a fairly large enclosed space for bad weather, also large tent available, PLUS, they have a great spot for guests to take to the water on sailboats, kayaks, paddle boards, or swimming...

Another option that isn't directly on the lake, but has spectacular views of the lake and fantastic food is Castle in the Clouds...

Best Wishes for a wonderful wedding no matter where you end up!

p.s. the Mount is fabulous option as well, and we'll all wave and cheer from Pine Island as you go by :)

Very good friends of mine are getting married on the Mt. Washington in May. Their guest list is currently at 280+. I do not believe it's overly costly either!

Hi, I suggest you contact Amy at signature events in wolfboro. The link is in an earlier posting. She set up a fabulous reception for my son and his wonderful bride at a private home last summer- right on the water.. She took care of every detail at a most acceptable price.

I like the Oliver's Lodge idea. Kona is off Moultonborough Neck Road.

Hi,

{I'm really hoping I can just find a house on the lake with a large yard to throw up a tent and have a party...}

I would suggest contacting a Realtor that does house rentals ( preferred vacation rentals ?) You may be able to work a deal for exactly what you're looking for.
Best of luck.

Yankee Pedlar in Wolfeboro.does lots of rentals on the lake. They could probably find a house for you to rent for a wedding. They do have a website of their rentals.

I have also heard wonderful things about Amy & Signature Events. Had we not eloped to St. Lucia, she would have been my choice at the lake.

Good Luck!

You may want to consider the YMCA Boston camp...it has beautiful buildings and great areas on the lake...I know they regularly do weddings and receptions. Oh, and congratulations!

Geneva Point Center in Moultonboro may fit the bill. Not sure how many they accommodate.

I can strongly recommend Amy Piper, Signature Events, (603) 569-4786, and time is certainly of the essence with respect to a summer wedding reception.

Best of Luck. Happy New Year !!

Do you know of any links to any pictures of weddings held at Northwoods? Thank you!

Contact Curt's Caterers in Gilford. Joanne can likely help as they have catered some unbelievable weddings at many venues.
