By the time you read this in Sno-Traveler, we will likely be near complete with our fall trail and groomer preparations! We have started our membership renewal processes and look forward to seeing you out on the trails. Thank you for your support of the club and our activities. We are looking forward to a great, snow filled riding season here in Moultonborough! Have a great holiday season! Here is some club news:

Trail Work: Even though we go out each Saturday AM to perform trail work through the fall, we advertise for 2 or 3 large trail days via email, online and on our new sign (Route 25 near Fullers). We have already held our first 2 and they were quite successful. This past Saturday, we got the majority of the snow fencing/ ropes installed. These act as a reminder for our members to stay on the trail and protect our land owner’s property. It is only through continued good relations with our neighbors that we are able to keep our nearly 70 miles of trail open for your enjoyment! As noted a group goes out each Saturday starting in September from the club garage. We usually arrive at 0800 and try to hit the trails by 0830. Please consider joining us on those days as well.

We had a lot of growth this year due to the warm temps and ample amounts of rain- so we are quite busy cutting overgrowth, clearing blow downs and general clean-up. It has been good seeing some of our younger members of the club getting involved as well- they are the future of MSC.

The MSC garage is located on Highway Garage Drive which is approximately 3/4 of a mile down Moultonborough Neck Road on the left. We hope to see you there- we are happy to have any help we get, even if you can only make one weekend a year.

Volunteer Opportunities/ MSC Leadership: Like all snowmobile clubs in NH, the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club officers and directors are all volunteers. I have been in discussions with a gentleman who will likely come on the board as Vice President, but will make it official after we have gone through the process of appointing him via a board vote.

We are also scheduled to update our by-laws, so if you are an attorney or have a knack for that type of work, we welcome your advice and assistance.

Please contact me or any other club officer or director if you are interested in assisting in any way. We meet monthly during the season (Sept-May) to conduct club business on the third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM at the Moultonborough Public Library. Members are always welcome at our meetings and encouraged to attend. Please see our club website moultonborosmc.org for contact information. We appreciate all of our club volunteers; you make the club what it is!

Thank you: I would also like to send a special thank you out to those members and past board members that continue to work tirelessly behind the scenes to get trails signed, perform trail work, process membership applications and generally just do what needs to be done. So if you see George and Cheryl Higgins, Rod MacDonald, John Anderson, Pat Venuti or Don Lemien out and about, please say hi and thank them for their service to the club.

Special Skills: We realize that our club is made of members with a wide variety of skill sets and interests. We are always looking for help in ways that do not include trail work. Attorneys, accountants, website designers, etc please consider assisting us from the comfort of your home or office.

Monthly Activities: It is that time again to put away the shorts, and pull out your riding gear! This season’s social calendar is shaping up to be even better than last year. We have something fun planned each month of the season such as our Annual Holiday Party, a club ride to a Pizza Party and Bonfire, Progressive Dinner, Spaghetti Dinner, Saturday Group Rides, and the Annual Meeting BBQ. I look forward to seeing you all and sharing in the fun! Please check out updates to our full social calendar on the club’s website, www.moultonborosmc.org.

Snowmobile Safety Course
Snowmobile Safety Course: We will be holding our 2012 Snowmobile Class on Saturday December 15th at the Geneva Point Center, Geneva Point Road, Moultonborough for our young riders. The Class will start at 8:00 AM and run to 3:30 PM. The Club will be providing lunch.

Please bring your riding gear as part of the Class requires riding on an outdoor course to test your knowledge of snowmobile rules and riding skills. We encourage parents to attend the class.

Please contact Steve Janaitis at 603-253-6707 as soon as possible to reserve a place in the Class.
Check this link: http://moultonborosmc.org/event/snowmobile-safety-course/

Membership: Members should have received their membership applications either electronically or with this letter via the US Mail. Please send them back as soon as possible. If you have not received them please see our website.

Trail Maps: YES, they are done and printed. Thank you for your patience, but it came out really well and I think most will think it worth the wait! A big thank you needs to go out to Paul Driscoll for spearheading this effort- it would not be done if not for his hard work. If you ordered a map you should be receiving them as well as a small token of our appreciation for your wait. Look for them in local stores as well.
Finances: The Club is in very good condition financially with all of our bills and insurance payments made and up to date. We have set reserves aside for major repairs or overhauls to our grooming fleet.

Grooming: Last winter, we purchased a 1997 Tucker 1000 for grooming the Balmoral/ Suissevale end of the trail system. Its drag was painted yesterday and it is almost ready to go. We have been repairing/ maintaining the machines to get them and the Skandics ready for winter. A special thanks to Rod MacDonald for his efforts. I have also started to contact groomer operators to firm up the schedule. We have applied for grant money to assist in the purchase of a 4 stroke Skandic.

Reroutes: We have had a couple of minor reroutes that you should be aware of: 1) the Route 25 crossing near Fullers will be relocated to the other side of the gas station (closer to Moultonborough Neck Road) and 2) the 109 crossing at Arey’s trail has been changed to minimize snowmobile travel on the road.
