Independent garage door installer.
Looking for a reliable garage door installer. An independent.
Not some large company.
There are usually a few independents that work out there installing garage doors. Usually one person and a truck.
Anyone have any recent dealings with such? Names?
Thanks.

We just had repair work (broken torsion spring) done by Overhead Door Options in Meredith. They did good work when they said they would do it.
It is a local family run business. It does look like there is more than the one guy and one truck that you are looking for.:D

I had Overhead Door Options replace two overhead doors on my garage. They provided quality doors at a very fair price. They installed the doors on the scheduled day and did a quality job. The company is owned by Brad Leighton who lives in Center Harbor. Not a one man operation but a small reliable company.

Elite did our doors in Dover, they were fair, prompt and professional. They even took one of our old but good panels out and swapped it with a damaged one at my neighbors house to help them out. We changed to a carriage style door, high r value and they are great.

Thank you for replying.
My neighbor purchased a garage door at Lowe's. The actual installer came from Lebanon, NH. So I don't think distance is an issue if work is to be had around the lake.
If you would like to provide a name and number that would be much appreciated. If you think that this installer works only in the Alton area that is fine.

This one states Elite Garage Door of New England. So it would appear that these fine folks will travel for work.
Thank you.

Laurent Overhead Doors is located in Belmont and the family is well known in Laconia. They have been around for generations. The developer of my association uses Laurent to buy and install the doors. The majority of us are happy with our garage doors which were installed around the late 70's.

Fleming garage doors did ours in SDS. Priced out a few places and still waiting for a one to call me back(did this a year ago). Fleming was not the cheapest nor the most expensive but new what they were doing and did it well. Called them for a service call a few months ago and the tech called back the same day and stopped by to make a adjustment that week. I was very happy with them on the install and the after the sale service.

Hello,
My name is William Castner. I am a representative at Quality Insulation of Meredith. I joined this forum to help customers answer questions and inform them about the products we sell.
We carry Wayne Dalton doors and Lift Master openers. Our tech has been installing garage doors for over 15 years.
Please give me a call at my office (603-393-0117) or private message me for my cell phone number. I would be more than happy to help with questions or give a free estimate.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I know this site is very popular and the building industry can be tough. I want to help spread some knowledge and maybe some people will give us a Quality a chance to outfit thier homes with the building products we carry.
Thanks again,
Will

Thanks for all of the names.
I am only seeking an independent. A guy/gal in a truck. There used to be many few years ago.
I only need my panels replaced. The large storefront companies want to change the tracks, springs, etc. All are in excellent condition and operate properly. So no need to pay to replace something that is not broken or defective.
I do understand that these storefront companies wish to make money to cover their staff and overhead. But my tracks and springs are just fine. So no need to replace.
Thanks to all for the input and names suggestions.
I'll keep looking.

I have been on two jobs where the homeowner had just the panels replaced.
I was given the new panels to paint pre-installation. One was done by Laurrants (spelling?) the other by Belmont garage door.
Detail do help!

The panels you have now might not match the track and springs. You’re new panels you could have a different R value making the door heavier and thicker which would require you to change the springs and the tracks. The weight of the door goes by how big a spring you use you could have moved from a stretch spring to a torsion spring. The new panels could be thicker and will not fit inside the track anymore. They are tons of different variables and you being a homeowner’s sound like you want to get out of it the cheapest way possible. Be for warned when the door comes flying down and crushes your new car you will ask why that just happened(and blame the garage door guy). I just brought all new panels for the garage door. In some cases you can just swap out the panels but you need to be qualified to make that decision!! It sounds like you know it all so just keep looking. :)

Thanks for that input.
Yes, all of the issues surrounding weight and size were discussed.
The tracks are standard residential garage door tracks. The spring is a standard spring. The door size is standard door size. All were originally professionally installed with high quality components. I am replacing same door for same door. Don't need new tracks and new springs. None are broken or worn out. No electric motors involved. Hand lift.
Yes, I can understand if putting a heavy door on a light spring or a light door on a heavy spring. But this is not the case. Same. Same.
I'll keep seeking an independent guy/gal.

Try calling Michael at Laurent Overhead Door. He's located on Messer Street in Laconia. 524-4778
With the correct measurements and door information he can supply you with what you are looking for in regards to just the door section. Is this section wood or metal? If it's wood it might be a little harder to get because it's a lot older. Is the door a Wayne Dalton door or some other manufacturer? It helps to know this info when you call him. Do you know who installed it?
Unless you're changing the door weight or the springs are worn, you won't need to change the springs. You might need new hinges and/or rollers but that should be it.
He'll give you a fair price and won't charge you for what you don't need.
Hope this helps!
Chris Patten in Wolfeboro does overhead doors. He works out of his home. I assume he will do doors only, but I don't know that. I looked up his number for you, it is under Cindy. 569-0263. You could call and talk to him anyway.

The tracks are standard residential garage door tracks. The spring is a standard spring. Not going to get into a pissing contest with you but what is a standard door? 8'x7' 9'x7' or 8'x8' these all use different size springs. Orange, Red, Yellow Green or it could be an extension spring.
I am replacing same door for same door. Does this mean just the same size or same brand with same r values? Just trying to save you from costly repairs down the road and for your own safety!! Please replace your safety cables as well as your regular cables and hinges.

Thanks for all of the suggestions.
I did contact Chris and did have an appointment. But he cancelled.
I did find:
WeatherStrong Overhead Doors.
603-536-7227.
Brian.
He showed up. Provided an estimate.
Installed doors as scheduled. Showed up on time.
Good reasonable price.
Brian owns his own business. He is an expert in garage doors. Installation and repairs.
I had three replacement garage doors installed. Insulated garage doors with some windows. Guarantee one year.
Garage doors work perfectly. And look beautiful.
A quality job.
Chris cancelled?? That's not very good for business! Did he give you a reason?

Anyone have any updates to the above installers? I'm going to be getting an estimate to put in better, more insulated, doors. Any brand advice would be welcome. Looking for rustic, wood-like door compatible with cedar shake Adirondack style. No plastic looking doors need apply. Thanks in advance.
Chris did sell his business to somebody in Meredith I think.
