House Insulation

Anyone know of foam injection insulation company called Baystate Injection Foam, LLP. They insulate sidewalls of house with a product called tripolymer and is supposed to be completely safe. It's a chemical enhanced liquid that is injected thru a relatively small hole drilled into the sidewall after removing a few siding boards or strips then siding is replaced. Located in Salem, NH and apparently do homes in New England.
Also wonder if anyone has had them do an insulation job for you? Results?

Any recommendations?

My apologies for posting again. Now you probably know why I used my log name! Hope it's not alzheimers.

Didn't mean to post twice Codeman but truly forgot. Sometimes I get so busy I forget things.

One thing though-I didn't feel most were understanding that I was talking about an insulation that was injected (not blown in, sprayed on or batts etc.).

If you go with them let us know how it works out. My 10 year old home was poorly insulated, the wind blows right through the place so I am curious as to the cost and outcome.

I'm curious also. Do you have any quotes from them? Just wondering what the up front costs are.

Any idea if that material hardens once inside the wall? I wonder if they ever have issues with the material coming out of the outlets/switches?.

Is this a camp or a constructed year round home?
What year was house constructed?

Still working on amount and decision to do. Web site (in PDF) says it begins to setup in matter of seconds and 2-3 days to harden/cure maybe. Also says it stops expanding as soon as outside of nozzle.

This year round old/older home from early 20's with little or no insulation.

It's great stuff, much improved over what they used years ago. non toxic and hypo allergenic.
Just hope that you don't need to replace and run any wiring after this stuff is installed.

Thought I would post this answer from a friend I got in email. Not sure if this fellow used the same injection foam or spray kind. From what I have seen and read he used the spray kind as I don't think you can snake wires thru the injection kind. I believe it to be too thick and hardened for that.
Anyone know?

"Not a problem my partner (name deleted) has foam insulation in his walls and says that you just fish it through the same as fiberglass insulation. He has done it twice for new circuits and speaker wire. He also pointed out that if you are rewiring. You use the old wires as the pull for the new ones. The insulation is soft and not hard to pull through. Hope this helps. He said any electrician worth a damn could do it if he can."

Not so simple as just pulling the wires through with the old ones.Many wires might travel horizontally through studs and blocking.I just snaked a coax cable through a fiberglass ins wall and had a real tough time trying to use the existing cable to pull my fishtape.It turns out it was located one bay over and run through a stud.wouldn't go.Took a measurement to find out it was on the other side of the stud from where it started.New hole and presto!It would be very difficult to snake down a wall with rigid closed cell spray foam imo.

Thanks for your reply. I agree and also got an answer from my other source who said basically the same as you.

One thing I forgot to mention too-the foam insul.is water soluble so will rinse off with hose etc., at least according the the web site. Guess you need to do that soon after.

I am curious to know the specs on this. Is is a vapor barrier, moisture barrier, what are the sound debtning capabilities and of cource price.

A nicely dense packed blown in fiberglass or cellulose inslution can be a cost effective way to upgrade efficiency and quiet down the house. Im wondering how much better this injection foam is for the price.

Foam insulation was injected thru sidewall by drilling holes between studs in regular two story house in MA. May have had some vapor and sound barrier quality but not really known.

Decided not to install for various reasons. City required permit and I don't believe they wanted to obtain-need I say more? Also did not like the rigid foam's (upon curing) affect on house wiring if indeed it would prevent any repair etc.after foam installed. But mai reason was the first listed. Never got to a price quote.
