History of Lincoln Park Gilford?

Lincoln Park in Gilford is a favorite spot of mine and my wife as well. We love the view from there. I was wondering if anyone could tell me a bit about the history of the park. How long has it been a park, prior use, how it got it's name, etc. I did a Google search but could not find anything.:(

The home of A.V. Lincoln still sits just down the road from the park seen in this "then and now"....

A. V. Lincoln of Boston, MA, who had extensive connections with the (Lakeshore) Railroad, erected his impressive cobblestone and shingle cottage at the end of the 19th century overlooking the Broads. The cottage's horsebarn also remains. He gave the town a small piece of land now known as Lincoln Park, Mr Lincoln was a great favorite of the local children and hired a steamer to take them on excursions about the lake to celebrate his birthday. 127 Belknap Point Road."

In McDude's postcard you can see the Belknap Point railroad station in the far left corner. Great big McMansion there now.

Thank you one and all for such a quick and informative response to my question. I never knew that the railroad ran on that part of the lake. I will try to find more on the life of A.V. Lincoln. Does anyone know his full name? Thanks again.

My folks had a trailer in Two Pines Trailer park in Glendale, across from what is now Lyon's Den.

My girlfriend at the time and I went for a walk one evening, and ended up down on Belknap Pt at what is now Lincoln Park. There were some wooden docks piled on the shore and we walked down to sit on them and watch the world go by, the moon come up, etc..

All of a sudden she says "look at the black and white kitty." I looked down and yup, you guessed it, our white kitty was not a kitty at all. This skunk was thankfully 1.) not rabid and 2.) very friendly. It actually rubbed up against her leg before moving off. After holding our breath for what seemed 5 minutes, we also moved on.

Could we name it Skunk Holler instead? :laugh:
