Anyone have any info on a Ice hotel and bar that is supposed to be on the lake in February? Is the true or just a joke.

First I heard of it. I'm not sure how accomodating an ice bed is.
There is an icebar set up at one of the ski lodge up in Jackson NH. They have a big party which was held annually for years.

I saw a special on the Travel Channel about houses on ice. They did a segment on Meredith Bay, where some group has a home brewery bobhouse. Later in the Special, they showed a icehouse and bar up in Minnesota area or somewhere up that way.
Ah an ice hotel. I remember I went to one once! I sat by the fire for hours, and then went into the sauna after swimming in the heated pool. LOL!

Nothing beats sleeping in a warm bed.......nothing involving drinking, sleeping or eating on a solid sheet of ice appeals to me.....wait, that sounds like ice fishing.......hmmmm.

Well, it could happen.
here's a picture of an ice hotel that claims to be the first and largest ice hotel in the world.

ANd I found another ice hotel in Canada:

Then there is an ice SAUNA and ice bar in Sweden

So my guess is that it is possible to have an ice bar, ice motel or even an ice sauna in the Lakes Region. With our weather I would expect it to be on a much smaller scale than those in the pictures. Where did you hear about this?
Safe and warm winter to all,

If the rumor is true, I'm guessing the bar at the hotel will be run by Mr C?

Glen,
It is a bit of an inside joke for those who were members of the forum last summer. Some examples can be found here,

One of those, you-had-to-be-there-when-it-happened threads.

Just a reminder of what Mr. C's really looked like! Oh, by the way, I've spotted GTO in that picture! Really!
BY THE WAY, SORRY TO GET SO FAR http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/images/smilies/offtopic.gif

here is a positing and replies from a different winni forum. :rolleye2:
I am planning on coming up and staying at the planned Ice Hotel that will be built on lake Winnipesaukee this winter. Being new to the area, I am looking for a few good restraunts and bars, other than the ones I understand will be available at the hotel, to hang at, any suggestions. We are hoping to take in the fishing derby as part of our stay. It will be finished Fed 15th and located near Two Mile Island out of Center Harbor."
"The bar will be part of the hotel and be open to the public. It will be 2.1 miles from Center Harbor going South East, just off of Two Mile Island. Full bar with ice classes and a drink louge. They are going to have a grill and be serving sanwiches. Sounded to great to me."

If someone were in fact planning such a hotel and bar, I'm sure there would have been information about it long before now. The Discovery Channel has a great program about the building of one such hotel in Europe. The planning starts a year in advance, and the ice for the structure is harvested one year for use the next year. The project involved some of the most amazing equipment and engineering I've ever seen, and it took many weeks of intense work to complete once the weather was cold enough to begin. The weather there turned cold enough in October!!!!!! I can't believe a project such as this would be cost effective considering the amazingly short period of time when such a structure could remain useable here. The cost for a room would have to be in the tens of thousands per night in order to break even.
There are also many ice bars in Europe, and anyone who's a fan of the show "Amazing Race" was treated to a great episode early this season where the contestants had to visit the bar and slide a shot down the bar. Hilarious to watch, and difficult to perform!
Now, if there is such a structure to be built here, I'd like to stand on shore and watch it being built, but with the condition of the ice being so unpredictable, I seriously doubt you'd catch me out there getting a closer look
I guess only time will tell - anyone out in the proposed area see any indications that something is actually being built on the ice?

Thanks for all of the input. If I find out differently I will let you know. I think that what they were talking about however was just a small bar type ... not a true hotel.
Oh well.... one can dream
