On our boat, butts or knees are on the seat unless at the helm. Hope all turns out well.

WOW how unfortunate,,,

This is one of my biggest fears boating, and one of the reasons I will not buy a bowrider, just don't want anyone in front.

Not saying all bowriders are the same and don't know what kind of boat was involved in this event, just dont care for the concept of having anyone ride in front of the boat and the potential for falling over and under the boat,,,

Its must have been horrific for everyone there. :(

Nothing in that article says the child was bounced into the water from the bow of the boat. In fact it sounds like he was in the main part of the boat and tumbled over the stern when the boat was jolted by a big wave.

Hope he heals quickly.

Not our lake, but I happened across this video from Lake of the Ozarks today showing a boat's passengers getting knocked around pretty hard after hitting a wake this week... and this appears to be in a 38 foot boat.

It's at about 1:15 in.

Four adults and four children were on board the vessel; the children were swimming when the boat drifted into shallow water, police said. Everyone reboarded the vessel, so the boat could navigate into deeper water. The operator, Robert S. Wood, 70, also of Acton, shifted the vessel into reverse and while backing up encountered numerous large boat wakes that sloshed over the swim platform. This shook the boat, causing the victim, who was seated on the transom cushion, to lose his balance and fall over backwards, police said.. His legs then came in contact with the propeller.

At least one adult passenger jumped into the water assisting the victim back onto the boat.

The accident occurred between Bear and Mark Islands

I made the mistake of going to Meredith by boat from Welch island yesterday around noon time. The boat traffic was crazy and boat wakes from Governors island to Meredith was non stop and pounding. I can see how an accident like this may have occurred to a smaller boat. I hope the boy is O.K.

I also went to Meredith on Sunday. Was fine in the late AM on the way there, but on the way back WOW. Huge waves from boat traffic. I have a 21 foot open bow Sea Ray, and I did have passengers in the bow and I was very careful. As for the accident, I definitely see how that could happen. I almost always anchor when the kids are swimming, so I don't drift and then need to move the boat with people in the water. After hearing this, I will never let the kids swim without anchoring first unless I am way out in the middle of moultonborough bay. I hope everyone is OK.

It's a good thing that the guy in back got off from sitting on top of the rear bench seat. Operator error here!!!

We saw two MP boats heading around the corner at a high rate of speed at that time but did not venture out to see what happened. It must be been right around the corner from us.

That skipper should have made sure everybody was seated in a seat, not on the transom, before even starting the engines! How careless can you be??

I have not heard of any updates to the story. What is the status of his condition?
