Has anyone tried the new Frog Rock Tavern in the old Ken & Barry's location??

We visited Friday night and were very disappointed. Portions are small and prices are too high for the portions given. I ordered the appetizer crab/lobster cakes. They were good, not great. My husband ordered the meatloaf dinner. The baked potato that came with the meatloaf was the size of a plum. He asked for gravy, and after ten minutes the waitperson came back and said they did not have any. Total cost of dinner was $35 and definitely not worth it. There were a lot of people at the bar, so the beer must be better than the food.

WOW... welcome to the forum. you must have been very disappointed for this experience to motivate you to finally join. Is there any fish on their menu? I kinda smell some :)

I applaud the new owners and wish them luck in these challenging times.

Just wanted to point out that you did pretty much the same thing back in 2010 when you posted a negative review of O. Was that review fishy?

Actually; the O review was my third post. About a week after my first.

She actually raved about the Tamarack's "free pizza" and Tavern 27's "free lobster" Like my dad used to say, "It always tastes a sooo much better when it's free" !! ;)

Please give any new restaurant a chance.
They did a tremendous amount of work before opening.
I once had a to-go crab/lobster cake in a burger bun. The cake overflowed the large sized bun, meaning portions are fine. At the bar, diners had large meat burgers, both lunch and evenings.

I have verbally heard lots of very positive comments, and a few negative. They have had crowds. I've seen specials on their sidewalk board.
Posted restaurants will vary; give it a break!

They have a menu online via Facebook.

What kind a place is it? They call it a sports bar, but they have a big kids section on the menu.

Looks like some good lunch stuff sandwhiches and burgers, plus some entrees.

Someone starting this post asked about this restaurant and someone else posted their opinion. Lately some people get upset if anything negative is said about a place, questioning a person's motives. On the other hand, I have seen situations where a positive reviewer is suspected of having a connection to a restaurant. Can't people be free to post their views and let intelligent people decide for themselves whether they want to try the restaurant or not?

I think JanN makes a good point. There is always the risk that friends or family will crucify a competitor unfairly,or a disgruntled or fired employee might start a negative thread....and I've seen that happen more than once.
As an operator,I've had some unflattering posts, but some of them were justified and I was able to act on them.I might not have known otherwise and ,while it hurts to get beat up,they can be helpful.
Anyway,I vote to let it rip and let intelligent people decide for themselves.
I also think it's fair for forum members to question the authenticity of critcal or overly glowing posts........ seem to remember that Don once caught a member with multiple screen names making lots of posts praising himself.:rolleye1:

Been coming up the lake all my life. Where is the old Ken Barry's/new Frog Rock? I think when a restaurant is reviewed the address or the actual link to the web site would be nice since not everyone that views these messages lives here or has all the past locations memorized.

We were very happy with our first meal that we got from there tonight. Even happier with how little it cost. Will go back again for sure..

So tonight we decided to check out the Frog Rock. As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a smiling hostess and directed to a table. Our waiter came right over, welcomed us, took drink orders (sorry, no root beer or orange soda, kids settled for pepsi), beer was just cold enough and house chardonnay-ok. (although we were a bit concerned to see pre-poured wine glasses in the cooler?) Our helpful and happy waiter quickly brought chips and dip, which were quite good.
Then things quickly went downhill. A turkey wrap had what is best described as cheap deli turkey. salty, watery, and not appetizing. the wrap was tasteless. Fetticine w/Broccoli and chicken was barely touched due to the flavor, by someone who normally loves this. There appeared to be only 2-3 small/med. chunks of chicken. The steak tips were tasteless. A cheeseburger was the only meal that received a good rating. Thick and cooked to order.
Did I forget to mention that it was probably about 80 degrees inside at 6:30? Not comfortable. We ate (or didn't), paid the bill and escaped. Great service (we tipped accordingly, not his fault), but everything else needs work. Truly hope things improve. We had high hopes for a good pub place within walking distance of the Meredith docks.

Give it a break. Crafts festival all day Main Street Meredith. People using door constantly; they have a back screened porch, and I can imagine people leaving that door open as they come & go. How can you legitimately complain about temps inside given the conditions. Great new business on Main Street.
Wait till winter! Will you complain about temps?

Have eaten there three times and enjoyed it very much-It's not an o's but people are friendly-Comfort food was good-Beer was cold-Give the new owners a break-It's hard enough to make a living in this economy never mind start a new business

Why should a disgruntled / unhappy customer not report their opinion just because a restaurant is new?

Why give them a bye?
