View Full Version : Other public docks?

I'm very familiar with the big five public docks. Are there others or are they all business docks?

At 19 mile bay, I read you can dock there to use the store. Which docks are for the store? Are they public or just to shop at the store?

I also read there is a public dock in Tuftonboro or Melvin Village. But no business nearby. I know where the marina docks are, is the public docking nearby? Any reason to go there, other than launching?

Finally, Lees Mills is a long way down, again public docks but really no reason to go there unless launching or meeting someone?

Any others?

I would like to know all of this as well!

Thanks,

Melvin Village, Glendale, and the docks on the right at Shep Browns come to mind.

The docks for the store are on the far left hand side as you face the docks from the water. I believe the signs say there's a 2 hr. limit but don't specify they are for store parking only but I'll admit I never really look at them too closely.

I believe that when you go to the left side of the dock complex, the last two docks are public. The very last dock on the left is the Tuftonboro town dock and has the fire boat and a fish and game boat docked there...the other dock I believe is the store dock. I think it's supposed to be for the store only though not strictly enforced...not sure why else you would go there other than to use the store or launch.

There is a small dock at the launch facility in Winter Harbor (only a library there). Lees Mills is public but again, just a launch facility. Sheps is public but only the marina is there. There is also a small dock/launch for Moultonboro on the Long Island side of the Long Island Bridge and I think Stonedam Island has a public dock.

...because the last time we were there, only the right hand dock was public (vs island resident use) and the outside of it is for loading and unloading, with a 15 min. limit.

This has changed. The dock closest to the jet ski launch is now public with a 3 hour limit. The outer side is 50/50 split between loading zone only and 3 hour. The inside is mostly 3 hour, until you get close to the boat ramp.

Yes the dock on right side, viewing from the water, has 3 hour public docking. A section of that dock on outside and closest to shore is loading/unloading only.

All areas of the Glendale docks are clearly marked as to allowed use.

Use of the launch ramp is restricted to Gilford residents; guests of residents with a special boat launch guest card; or launching a boat with an island resident sticker.

All good info on the Glendale docks. I did use the inside of the left most dock (from the water) to visit the Lyon's den one night. Kind of silly for me given my dock is so close, but we did go for a nice ride after dinner.

I'm going to try 19 mile bay, just for the fun of it. I'll buy some junk food or a sandwich.

Thanks for all the other info so far.

Also: Lee's Mills at the north end of the lake; Harilla's Landing on the east side of Long Island has a few spots for short-term docking; the northeast corner of Stonedam Island has space for two boat; Back Bay in Wolfeboro has a better chance of a space if you can squeeze under the bridge. I'm not sure if the dock at the Libby Museum is public; or the pier for St. John's Church on Bear Island.

On Meredith Neck there is Lovejoy Landing and Cattle Landing. Both are public docks.

Lovejoy landing is the area adjacent to Shep Browns, correct?

Correct...they are one in the same (location-wise anyway). As far as how the town/Shep's affiliation works out, I'm not quite sure.

Other than being right next to each other there is no connection between Shep Brown's Boat Basin marina and the Lovejoy landing docks.

The two large docks, one concrete and the other wood, are public docks with a 3 hour limit. The paved parking lot is also town property and open to the public. There is also a sand parking lot up the hill that is open to parking and trailers. All of the other land, docks and buildings in the area belong to the marina.

The launch ramps are half marina and half town property and the marina collects the launch fee for the ramps.
