Did anyone else go see Carlos at Meadowbrook on Wednesday??
What a great show! At 64 years old (his birthday was Wednesday) Carlos seems like a fine wine and just gets better with age!! His band consisted of many talented musicians who were just phenomenal when playing together. Lot's of high energy music for 2 1/2 hours and of course the master himself on guitar, Carlos Santana.
Great show!

I went and I'm glad I did. What a show! It started at 8:34 and they played until 11:00. The time flew by. i saw them many years ago and they have retained the special vibe that is Santana. The percussion section was awesome! What a great show.

Yeah, great show. Carlos led a 10 piece band, including three drummers, a trumbone, horn, lead guitar, bass, keyboarder and two singers. He roams around stage like a true bandleader and they put out some great music. Almost nonstop through the whole concert. Meadowbrook is a great venue too. We are fortunate to have it here. One correction about his birthday. He implied it was that day but his website (http://www.santana.com/) has it as July 20'th (moon day), two days after the concert. One highlight was a drum solo by Carlos's new fiance, Cindy Blackman. It was long and intense. The proposal (http://gossip.whyfame.com/carlos-santana-surprises-girlfriend-with-onstage-proposal-5839)was made back stage earlier this month at a similar concert.

Santana was great! As an added bonus, during a few songs near the middle of the long set they showed old video footage from years ago (e.g., Woodstock) of twenty-something Carlos playing the same songs he was now playing live, at Meadowbrook. While this is often done with bands that have been around a while, this is the first time I've seen the old footage synchronized with the live performance in such a way that the riffs he was playing back then were the same as those he was playing right now. Unless I was imagining this, it was an impressive extra-musical bonus.
Oh, and the others are right: Santana's birthday, according to wikipedia, is actually July 20th, but who can blame him for celebrating a few days earlier.

Carlos was great, the show was superb. My only complaint is if I want to get political perspective, I will watch, listen, or read someone that knows what they are talking about. I am a subscriber to the belief "shut up and sing" when it comes to political perspective from entertainers. The comment made regarding Patriotism was not appreciated.

He was sharing the same beliefs he has held for almost half a century. At least he is consistent. You can't change an old hippy.

I agree he was being paid to sing and play not campaign! Luckily I am just deaf enough that I could not hear what he was saying.

I resent that remark!!! no... OK I represent that remark! typo "my bad.":laugh:
The boys from CSN talked up a little lefty politics to. Just can get the 60's out of some of us.
What I don't understand is how Rolling Stone ranked Stephen Stills #47 and Santana #20 on their Top 100 list. They had George Harrison at #10 ????

At lease they have Hendrix, Clapton and Page 1, 2 and 3.

We went. He rocked. The montage was great. I really hate it when a musician gets political, Sheryl Crow went into a leftist rant the last time we saw her, but at Least Carlos' message was just the typical peace and love hippy stuff. I didn't take any offense to it.

Maybe so. As I peacefully fish on this beautiful lake, I can't help but appreciate this wonderful free country that we live in. It is the best country on the planet, and it is Patriotism that put it there. Santana believes and stated at the concert that "Patriotism is for dinasors. We live in one world now" I strongly disagree. There are plenty of countries that would never be able to fill a venue with $60.00 seats so that Santana can do his thing. I don't begrudge his success I applaud it. Just don't criticize the free economy that put you there. Nothing against Hippies. Some of my best friends are Hippies.....
