Mowing the lawn and heard what I thought was a group of motorcycles... Looked around and saw 4 really low flying military planes, they were 4 prop driven Cargo carriers.. Came right up the lake from the broads and right over lower Alton Bay.. Pretty cool

Sitting on our deck on Rattlesnake looking north we saw the following planes (there were only three when they passed by us) coming straight down the broads flying very low and heading directly at us. Just before they reached the island they banked slightly and headed SE towards Black Point & Alton.6374
Looked almost like a scene out of an old WWII movie.....three planes closing in on a strafing run on Rattlesnake Island

Nice! Thanks for the pic! I heard rumors that the Taliban was holding up on Rattlesnake :)

One great plane with a storied service history, introduced into service in 1957 and still in production. Not the most comfortable ride, I once flew on one from Florida to Texas and that was quite far enough.

Saw two of those planes on Saturday (7/7/12) approx between 10:00am and 12:00 noon (if memory serves - which it probably doesn't). Came from the broads and headed straight down Alton Bay - low about 500-600ft above lake level. Pretty cool. Thought they may be taking Mit's vacation luggage back down south. ;)

We saw 3 of them buzz low over Bear Island and bank right heading back towards Alton last Saturday morning.

We saw those planes passing over Concord last night between 7pm - 7:30pm; pretty sure we saw three of them, heading north.

we saw them that night as they flew very low coming through meredith/ctr harbor. It was like the movie Pearl Harbor when the kids playing baseball looked up and saw all the planes flying over. cool sight

I thought the same thing, Fink2, as they were flying at us....but as they passed overhead it was obvious that here was no magnetic anomaly "stinger" on the rear.

Just like last year, I would expect another fly-over today, sometime after the noon hour. The Lenox Industrial Tools start at 1:00 pm in Loudon.

Have your cameras ready! They are mighty fast. :D

Excellent picture Rog!

Same manufacturer (Lockheed) and same engine (Allison T56 series), so the sound is very similar.

WHOH: I almost said the C-130 was the only four engine turbo prop in the military. I would have been Wrong. The OTHER FOUR Engine Turbo Prop (Propellers) in the military is the P-3 ORION. :look: NB

We have C-130s in Quonset Point (RI Air National Guard) that fly over almost every day..more Boxy than the Orion.

PS: What is that twin engine turbo prop that lands on Carriers..??

I don't know but sixteen twin engines B-25B Mitchell bombers took off from a carrier once.

Landing on carriers, maybe are S-2, which has folding wings. Nothing else I can think of landed on carriers but F and A aircraft.

S-2 Trackers (affectionately known as the "Stoof") are long gone, plus, they had recips, not turboprops. No Bozo's question would be better phrased in the plural, as the answer is both the E-2 Hawkeye and the C-2 Greyhound (or "COD" for Carrier Onboard Delivery).

Other non-A and F carrier-capable fixed wing aircraft:
S-3 Viking (no longer a part of any carrier air wing)
EA-6B Prowler
EA-18G Growler
T-45 Goshawk

And, the C-130! (For test purposes only- see the link below.)

U-2s have also operated from aircraft carriers.

They must have been some good parties because they would hold a lot of beer.
