Stella Luna, whose excellent baked goods have been available only on a limited basis (e.g., part-time at Mike's Meat Market, the Clark Road Farmers Market, and a few things at Butternuts), expects to open its own store with on-site baking in downtown Wolfeboro later this month, according to one of the proprietors -- IIRC, she said on Railroad Avenue.

She'll be up against tough competition with the Yum Yum shop in town!

Two different types of stuff imo, YumYum has what you or your grandma would make, homestyle and tasty good cookies, pies, donuts and cake, and sandwich bread. Stellaloona makes more pastry chef type tarts, french breads, etc, stuff I wouldn't try to make--and I am a big time home baker! We love both places!

I love Stella Luna. The ladies have been at Mill Street Meat Market and I've ordered her wonderful large tarts for company dinner parties.....YUM!! Yum Yum has never been appealing to me.

The sign is on the new shop. It says Gatherings and under that, Stella Luna. Yhe windows are covered with brown paper at the moment.

I'm originally from NJ, an hour out of Manhatten. I have been spoiled as far as bakeries go, as are most people who have access to urban areas with strong ethnic neighborhoods. I grew up having access to the most amazing bakeries that produced the most amazing breads, rolls, cakes and pastries. I've lived in Wolfeboro for eleven years, have tried Yum Yum numerous times and the results have always been blah. The tipping point was when we ordered a birthday cake that turned out to be inferior in both taste and appearance to what I could have produced myself with a Duncan Hines cake mix.

My views seem to be shared by a lot of the locals who are always amazed at how much the tourists seem to love the shop. I think it's more about a vacation tradition than the quality of the goods.

The most outstanding bakery I have encountered since my moved to this area was Riverstone in Conway. Sadly, it closed in the past year. It was worth an hor's drive for a special occasion cake. It could hold it's own with the finest pastry shops in NYC.

Totally agree...although I've probably shed 10 pounds since they closed, we're still in mourning over Riverstones' sudden closing.

I am a local and have been getting bakery products including countless birthday cakes for more years than I care to think about from Yum Yum and have never had anything that was less than superior. I know many locals who would completely agree with me.

I wasn't speaking for all locals, just those in my circle of friends and acquaintances. Yum Yum has been around for a very long time, so they must have a sizable base of patrons. I wonder how they would do if they tried to stay open year round when local patronage is crucial? That's tough for every one of our businesses.

As was mentioned, the Bakery and the Yum Yum are two different operations. Over the past few years the Yum Yum Shop slipped in its performance, but last year there was a dramatic improvement, and this season seems to be off to a great start. The long-time clientele so loyal to the Kelly family will, I think, see that the grandson running the business now is really doing a fine job and wants to return the Yum Yum Shop to its former status as a "must stop and shop" place in Wolfeboro. I wish him and his staff the very best.
