A few years ago, back in 2009 to be exact I posted on a company that was in the habit of performing shoddy work then refusing to fix or refund homeowners for their work.
Recently I was contacted about my posting by someone who shared a similar experience with this same builder and they asked if I would put them in touch with the homeowners that I posted about.
It seems that these contractor wannabe’s who at one time went under the name of All Quality Construction are still leaving a wake of unhappy homeowners.
I have since found out the names which I hope Don doesn’t mind me posting.
They are Brendan and Kevin Boyle. If you do a search you will also find that one of these people also has a criminal record which is public knowledge.
If you or anyone else has work done please be careful, I know of two homeowners who have had buildings done by them failed by the local building inspector and have to be torn down and redone by another contractor.
Don if this isn't appropriate for this forum I apologize but I felt I would try as it does concern the lakes region and one of its builders.

Three years ago. I fired one builder and ask several builders to give me a quote. They were one of them. When I told them they have to sign a SOW they walk away. Funny almost 75% of contractors and subcontractors refused to sign a contract. Most of them want to work on their own time and pace. Some even think their way is the best way. No contract, no work.
Most builders don't want to finish what was started by another. Same with subcontractors. Do your homework and hope that the first builder/subcontractor will finish the work, on budget and on time.
What urks me the slease ball contractors/subcontractors are still in business!

Broadhopper, Ok, maybe I'm stupid but could you please explain to me what an SOW is. If I know what that is then it would help me to understand your post and why these people refused to sign it. Personally, I think you are extremely fortunate that they did not sign this SOW because it seems it prevented you from entering into a business relationship with them. Thanks.

SOW is Statement of Work. The specifics of when and what need to be done. The actual contract that they must follow to the letter.
This is different than a RFQ (Request for Quote). You can request the contractor to give you a price on what they will do. It does not follow what you actually want done.
I was building an eco home with specific requiremnts for 5 star energy rating. The house was built to 2010 RBC (residential building code). At the time the town's building code was to 2004 RBC. Getting the building inspector to agree with the latest codes was another matter.

Thank you for explaing to me what an SOW is. Having seen how these people operate I can totally understand now why they did not sign the form. There is no way possible they ever would have kept it and, from what you are saying, it seems like it is something so exact that they can't "wiggle" their way out of saying this wasn't agreed upon or that wasn't agreed upon. I can tell you just minimal of what I happened here in stating that they were constantly taking time off, didn't complete work that they said that they would complete, the work that they did do was not to code for the building inspector, they won't even think about returning monies and leave people high and dry to fix their mistakes. First time the homeowner is out the money that they give this outfit and then whatever work is done (which isn't much) has to be done over by someone who does know what they are doing and, of course, they have to be paid.
I completely understand, now, why they didn't sign the SOW. Also, again, even if they had signed an SOW they never would have followed it. They are simply this type of people and it would have proven to be nothing but a headache for you. I'm glad you dodged the bullet on that one and hope that you are enjoying your new home.

Please anyone reading this - do business with these folks at your own risk. Now is the time for people to be doing construction jobs and I know that there are TONS of great people to work with in the Lakes region. These people do not fall in that category. I have heard of another person who was scammed by these people a while back. Buyer Beware....please.
