In checking out webcams for a look at the snow cover at the lakes region this morning I became enthralled with this unfolding scenario....

Thanks McD. I would have missed it and seeing the island in such a pretty light just made my day!

If you look now, you will see how much of the ice has melted or blown away. This morning the Bear Cam showed mostly ice, now much of it is gone... Is this a repeat of the year the lake didn't freeze? I hope not, the sled is ready!

You are absolutely correct, IG! Hard to believe.....(time 1:42 p.m.)

Someone pointed out to me today that the extended, severe cold snap we had for most of January last year didn't start until the 9th. If I remember correctly, there wasn't much ice until that started. Still plenty of time for some cold weather and ice ahead.

Just caught the weather and it looks like the next week is going to be rather warm, low 30’s to 40’s.
I may be anxious for ice-out, but I wouldn’t wish a no-freeze year on those who enjoy the lake when it turns into a winter playground.
