I have been thinking about getting a set of whips for the boat I leave at the island. My dock was recently all rebuilt and it's taking a beating even with snubbers and 4 way tieing.
My question is can or how do you mount whips on a dock that has removable plank sections?? Can they be mounted to the side of the dock instead of the top?
Thanks!!

Sounds like you're getting battered pretty good if the 4 lines don't do the job.I'd go oversize on the whips and make sure they are bolted with good sized washers and not screws.I'm in a no wake zone with western exposure and have had screws work loose after a while.

I dont know of any that would mount on the side but my buddy have an aluminum crank out dock with pull off sections. He mounted his to the Aluminum rails with bolts and made a backing plate to go under the rails.

I had the same problem on my dock at the island. The solution was a two foot long piece of 2x6. Place it under the rails and use longer bolts with washers and nuts on the bottom. This spreads the strain over several rails and you don't get the twisting you see so often.
