Can anyone tell me if there is public access to Bear Island? The Green Map shows a public dock at the Northeast end of the island, and that part of the island itself is labeled a forest and wildlife preserve. Is this similar to Stonedam Island?

Are there any other public access islands? My kids love the adventure of taking the boat to an island and then exploring and having a picnic.

Thanks!

There is a dock for St. John's church that you can use to access the island. It is on the south side of the island and marked on Bizer's chart.

I believe this is the only public access dock on Bear. The trail up from there leads to the Chapel and there are trails from there that head to the North side of the island.

Walk up the steep hill from the church docks in Church Cove to the beautiful chapel (peek inside if it is open). Continue beyond the south side of the chapel, through the opening in the stone wall, to the sign erected by The Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests. A marked (yellow dot) trail begins at this point. Another (white dot) trail begins at the north side of the chapel. Enjoy!!!

The mail dock at the northern end of the island is public too.
