Is this book going to scare me? Is Mr. Dunn an islander?

I am a sucker for books where the location is our lake, but I don't want nightmares about killers traipsing about the island. I have a vivid imagination!

If you have read it...

Thanks for the heads up on this book Island Girl and Rattlesnake Gal !! I love the cover photo, really mysterious looking. I am ordering the book on Amazon. Is Mr. Dunn a resident of the Island or ever been there ? Do you happen to know if this story is fiction ?

Newbiesaukee is correct, Randy has been a Forum member, but not a terribly active one, since November of 2010 under the name of RandallDunn (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/member.php?u=14657). His sister and brother in-law have a cottage at historic Lake Shore Park (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3646&highlight=lake+shore+park) where and his family have been coming up to Winnipesaukee for many years. Naturally they have fallen in love with the lake and surrounding communities. Who doesn't fall in love with our great lake?! :D

If you go to his profile it lists his home page and from there you can read the first chapter. Good stuff.

Phewww, my copy finally arrived from Amazon yesterday afternoon. Now I'm struggling with the decision of whether to read it right away or wait until I'm on Rattlesnake in a couple of weeks.

I bought a Kindle Fire about a week ago and had downloaded one free book, but have not been able to find this book to download. I am supposed to get a months free downloads. Does anyone know if I have to join the Amazon club to access it?

I'll probably get bashed for this since the author is a member of the forum, but I read it over the weekend and was really disappointed. It was cool to have all the references to places we all know all over the lake but even that wore thin after just a few chapters. I felt as though this book was put together just for the purpose of selling to the locals because the story happened locally. And those local references seemed very forced to me. He stuck them in places that really had nothing to do with the story just for the sake of doing so. For example; "Vanya and Kevin stood on the Wolfeboro docks, enjoying their ice-cream cones outside of Ben & Jerry's in Center Harbor while watching locals and tourists mill by." Where did Center Harbor come from in that sentence?

I certainly don't claim to be literary critic but in my opinion the main premise of the story was ridiculous and the writing was sophomoric and monotonous. I wanted to scream every time the main character said "um". I didn't want to give up on the book before it was finished but I really couldn't wait until I was done with it. Not because I was dying to find out who done it, but just so that the pain would end and I could get back to Words with Friends.

I bought mine for $3 on Amazon so I really can't say I was cheated out of any money, just my time. It might be cool to have the hardcover on your coffee table for conversation's sake but certainly not for the story inside.

My $0.02. Let'er rip.

I bought a copy for my wife and received it yesterday. I won't tell her what you said and see what she thinks. Probably the same as you as she is pretty good at critiquing things especially books!

If worse comes to worse, it will be coffee table material at the camp.

Thanks R G. I finally got my copy downloaded to my new Kindle Fire, from Amazon and read the first chapter this afternoon. I was wondering if I had the right book at first, because it started off on the Potomac.
