Sunset and moonrise April 5th and 6th

This Thursday and Friday are set up for some very good conditions for "moon"
pictures.

As you can see below.. there is a fairly rare combination of full and near full moon rise and closely matched sunsets. With predicted clear sky's both nights, the moon should be spectacular, especially Friday night when the sun setting and full moon rising at almost the same time.

I'll be out there!

I found on website The Photographer's Ephemeris all the great info easy to access, and including compass headings, elevations for selected days, and selected locations!

I have very cool app on my IPhone that uses the IPhone compass to locate sunrise and sunset. I've been using it, and it's amazingly accurate. It has a compass, that actually will point you to the exact location of sunrise and sunset.

I also have a moon phase app, but it only shows phases by date.

Look at TPE on computer, free.
I had iTunes gift card and after a while, decided to buy TPE for my iPhone. A little more costly than sunrise sunset, which is nice. I was visiting in FL, and TPE put me right in the spot to see moonrise time and bearing. I had to allow time for the moon to come above horizon.

I thought you'd like it.
You made decision to purchase the app quicker than I did, after seeing it on computer. If you do the "check for updates" in iTunes as frequently as I do, you'll do well. I find it difficult to view forums on iPhone; if easier, I could upload a screen shot or a reduced iPhone image of my capture!

I did photograph the moon rise in my FL visit, not just with iPhone, but with two other cameras! Your "stitching" in PS Elements is interesting to say least.

Iphone actually has a very good panoramic App. it's called 360 Panorama by Occipital. (Cheap to.. 1.99) very, very simple. Open the App, stand still and move the camera horizontally. It's not "fussy" at all. After you snap all the pictures it automatically stitches them together.

Thanks again for the sun moon program... I'm looking forward to try it tonight and tomorrow if it is clear enough.

It's fun & interesting to sit with TV or whatever, and at same time play in the app, with locations where you might travel to. Myself, at full moon time in early January, I was looking up time and angles as I was trying to locate a site to capture the full moon rising. I was going to west coast of FL between Sarasota & Fort Myers. I located a pier to walk out on where I could look to east (but I had compass bearing) and try to capture some docks with fishing boats tied up.

Th sun was still a little too high when the moon came up, so you really couldn't get mush "detail" until the sun had set. Tonight should be much better if the sky stays as clear as it was last night. The difference in moon rise and sun set is only 10 or 15 minuets as opposed to the 1 hour from yesterday.

It was a bit frustrating getting the settings right to be able to get "detail" on the moon when shot with the land features included... too dark, to light.. under exposed, over exposed. But I did get a few "Moon Only" shots that show some detail..

Great Shot! You got what I was trying all night to get... nice coloring and detail in the foreground, with the moon in focus and with surface detail.
