Just curious if they expect to have the fishing derby next weekend?? The ice seems ridiculously thin in Meredith.

I heard Jim Sokolove was going to be out in Meredith for the Derby. Something about enticing people out on unsafe ice for prizes and money. :eek:

Yes, the Great Rotary Ice Fishing Derby is still scheduled for Feb 11-12 - the ice in Meredith Bay is a bit thin, but Town of Meredith is or has disabled the aquatherms at the docks to help the ice buildup and water inflow from Waukewan has been slowed. The forecast is for cold weather (at least at night) with 30s in daytime as of 2/1/12... You can still buy Derby tickets online ... the website has had a snafu but will be remedied tonight when I get home! Remember, you don't have to fish to win - there are lots of cash prizes. Good luck and be safe.

Any updates on the status of the Derby? Yesterday I heard it was cancelled but the web site says it is still a go. Does anyone know for sure?

They were setting up Derby Headquarters yesterday. I've heard nothing about it being cancelled. If the web site says it's a go, it's a go.
