My son and I are planning a snowmobiling trip to Pittsburg this January. Any local input on good places to stay, ie from past experiences? We are looking to be able to ride directly to a trail from the lodging. Also trying to keep the cost under control. Thanks.

Lopstick Cabins are great. Many options to choose from regarding price. http://www.cabinsatlopstick.com/

Good luck!

45th parallel cabins are my favorite. Right on the trail just south of Pittsburg in Stewartstown/ Swift Diamond Rider Country. These are great for those looking to ride some great trails and be a stones throw from Pitts so as to avoid a lot of the intown traffic. Clubhouse and gas is right up the street. Google them for the website. Great place, knotty pine interior, nice kitchens and gas fireplaces.

We really like Robbins Cabins on Back lake, trail access is no problem. (603)-538-6314, they are very reasonable on price, and very nice people to deal with.
Another decent place is http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p159842

They are on the First Conn Lake and it is a great place, but a little pricey.

I second 45th Parallel Cabins, my son and I stayed there last winter on a couple of occasions.

Number one on my list is Tall Timber Lodge. Right on Back Lake, also on trails, clean, great restaurant on site. All price ranges. Go to www.talltimber.com.

My second choice is Snowfield Cabins 5 minutes from Tall Timber. Very reasonable in cost, call owners Dennis and Pat Plante (603-538-7008). Very clean and good value for the money all cabins have full kitchen facilities. do a search on the web for pictures also nice people to deal with. Not sure if they are on the trails but I think so. Just call and ask.

hope that helps.

Tall Timnber is the ultimate snowmobile getaway. Right on trails, awesome restaurant....Lopstick Lodge is also nice, but no restaurant, so you have to get in car for food, but it is north, so on a year that does not have a lot of snow, you have better access to northern trails.

When in Pittsburg, my trailer stays attached to my truck. Snomo only!!

Hockeypuck also told me about Tall Timber Lodge. We stayed there a few years ago. Would be number one on my list also.

Back Lake is a very busy area and so is getting in and out of the gas stations in Town therefore conditions vary greatly. Some people like to be where the action is, some don't. Your mileage may vary. :D

I have stayed at Lopstick each of the 3 times I have been to Pittsburg. Very nice place, and rates aren't too bad either. I would def. recommend Lopstick.
