This came to me as I was driving yesterday. Does anyone have vanity plates from NH or otherwise that make reference to the lake? I do. Let see how many creative members are out there... I will start, mine reads WINPSKE

That's a very good question ! In my travels I have seen plates on out of state vehicles making mention of something in New Hampshire. I live in Wolfeboro so I am more apt to see a plate trying to say Wolfeboro than some other NH connection. I have seen CT, VA, NY, MA, PA, FL trying to say Wolfeboro in some configuration. I can honestly say I haven't seen any attemps at Lake Winni (I can't spell Winnipesaukee), but now I will be on the look out.

My kids and I made a game of keeping track of license plates this summer to pass the time as we drove. At first, we just kept a list of what state's people came from. After a while, though, we started adding unusual vanity plates. Here are a few of the lake ones:

YUMYUM
FUNSPOT
WNIPSKE
LAKWIN
LAKWIN
LK-WINN
NJ 2 NH (a Jersey plate obviously)

By the way, mine (from NJ) is ECHO PT. It can be seen far and wide all over Alton Bay in August each summer.

My 2 plates say ECHOPT and 2ECHOPT. But they refer to a place on Winnisquam not Winnipesaukee. Cool coincidence though :)

BAYSIDE, BAY and SIDE are all taken plates. I know that BAY and SIDE were the plates Jessie Rogers had back in the early 60's for the Bay Side Motel now Bay Side Inn, Alton Bay. Wonder if the Inn has BAYSIDE now. I have seen the other ones on their vehicles.

I love this topic. It came up about 5 yrs ago, and has only been casually on the air since then.

One area I'm interested in is how people from [I]other[I] states try to make reference to Winnipesaukee, Wolfeboro (my town), other NH towns or attractions.

While driving in Pensacola I saw a car with NH "HAMPBCH", and, during the summer, here in Wolfeboro, I see cars from other states trying to say Wolfeboro. Funny, come to think of it, I don't see too many cars (maybe none) from NH trying to say non-NH locations.

Personally, my favorite is NH plate PCONE (that's me!).

I always wondered why a neighbor of mine in Lake Shore Park had the NH Plate NONE.

The story he told was that when he applied you had to fill out a form and submit it to the DMV. They gave you three choices.

He put in, #1 - his nickname, 2# a reference to his business. He couldn't think of a #3 choice so he filled in the spot on the form with.. you guessed it, NONE.

I just looked it up on the NH Vanity plate site, and it's available again. I think he moved out of state, or passed away. The resturant was the Cherrystone, it was across from Mountain View in Gilford. His name was Jim O'Brien.

This isn't quite in line with Vanity plates -- however my wife and I are extremely curious if this individual is a member of the forum ---

In Mass as you know there are many different "cause" plates. Where the added fee for the registration go to a particular cause i.e. Red Sox Plates go to the Jimmy Fund, Olympic symbols - support the US Olympics, etc .......

Amongst the many, recently they finally issued Breast Cancer Plates (which is very near & dear to my wife and I) and now both our vehicles carry them.

Anyway -- last Fall we spotted "BC 1" outside C J Avery's which obviously is the individual who initiated the drive for this series of Plates ......

Are you out there amongst us here in the forum??

To stretch this topic out a little, try going to Google and entering the following: PL8SPK. Several responses will come up, including a book entitled PL8SPK Vanity Plates Retell The Classics. In reality, this is a rather challenging book with some rather difficult vanity plates. It is a great table top book, but watch out for scratching, the front and back covers are license plate metal.

NH is one of the few states that duplicates the plate "number" on different playe types. You can get a "regular" plate with that "ECHOPT" and get a "Conservation" or other special logo plate, with "ECHOPT" on it also.

My NJ plate is "ECHO PT". I get tons and tons of comments and everyone in town knows my plate.

There is another Jersey car with NJ2NH. I stole that one for my webname. Wish I could get that one.

A few years ago, the kids and collected all the good NH plates. I could have sworn I posted this once before, but maybe not. Here goes:

we've lived in NH since 1983 and have had a variety of vanity plates. The best one came when my second son and his friend decided to get "matching" plates. The friend got, "LVFREE" and my son got "OR-DIE." I pointed out to him that perhaps he did not get the best part of that deal. That plate died of natural causes.

NH has instituted something new to the vanity plate request. One has to write a bried description of the meaning of the letters requested. We found this out a few months ago when my husband got new plates for my daughter's car.

Because of some extenuating circumstances, I have been sharing cars for a couple of years with my husband and daughter. A car for me is in the relatively near future; I've been waiting patiently for a car of my very own. I'm wondering if my choice of plate will pass the sniff test when fill out the new form.

I sat in line at the town hall while the couple in front of me tried vanity plate after vanity plate with "naughty meanings". I felt bad for the clerk who kept telling them, "nope the state won't let you have that either". I felt worse for me as I had to wait while the brain trust just kept trying to say anything inappropriate they could think of. I had a few ideas for them but had enough sense to keep them to myself.

Why? It's not a swear word...

From Wiki:

Hooah (pronounced /ˈhuːɑː/) is a U.S. Army (and rarely Canadian Army) battle cry used[1] by soldiers and also in use by the U.S. Air Force airmen "referring to or meaning anything and everything except no."

It's all though the movie Scent of a Woman - if you've seen that movie, then you've heard that terms a few dozen times...

I know this has nothing to do with the lake but I had to share the plate (https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/?ui=2&ik=1e74caf056&view=att&th=13e9f132fca67f82&attid=0.1&disp=inline&safe=1&zw&saduie=AG9B_P9sDU_CFlsO0hCMa3UbvKJC&sadet=1368468474025&sads=tkEixwQC-_vkuxwytGoWQ2HpQr4) that my son just got for his truck. It signifies U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery Officer. He was just commissioned yesterday as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from Norwich University on Saturday. Gatta Nera is not happy that he leaves for his first assignment tomorrow.

When this thread started, I was still living out of state. I grew up on boats and it has always been a love affair. I finally moved from Colorado 2.5 years ago, and was very excited to get my first choice: "BOATER" -- I get comments on it all the time, I lucked out that it was available (was told it had been released recent to my request). My plate is simple and me in a nutshell...from my passion for boating to my volunteer work on and off the water!

On my SS Camaro

Back in the day, I drove a '73 Chevelle SS and had one of the old USA-1 plates on the front. That was back when we only had to show one "official" plate. (I loved that car...not quite as cool as the body style that preceded it, but still a cool car. ; )

The 'coolest' bodies that ever came from the GM was the '67 Sting Ray, the '68 Pontiac Firebird and the '69 Camaros. All cars built after that looks like junk.

I guess the late 60's Ford Mustangs were ugly?!?! Or what about a GTO?? Okay back to your originally scheduled progamming.

I see this one all the time - because it's my wife's! Got it about 20 years ago when we bought our cottage. Connecticut only gives you 6 digits on plates so it becomes a challenge to come up with something that actually makes sense.

Uo tp $148 for vanity plates. Seems a little steep. Connecticut really likes to tax in any way it can.

This is a funny site for Vanity Plates from all over the country.

http://www.coolpl8z.com/top-100-best...late-ideas.php

Check out the only NH Plate to make the Top 100.. ( in 76th place )

Attachment 5139....not true because #42 is a NH vanity plate ......"MMMBEER"

...did the NH-RMV really give the green light to "IFARTED" .... holy smokes!
I just checked that coolpl8z.com link and "MMMBEER" is now at #25 and "IFARTED" is now at #72.

I used to have a vanity plate that might have made both the "banned in NH" list and the coolpl8z.com list; actually, I'm surprised it doesn't show up on the banned list now. That plate was "QQQQ".

Those that "got it" usually pointed and laughed! The few people that didn't "get it" until I explained it to them laughed once they heard the explanation (my mother was in this group, she thought it was hilarious!). Then there was the one guy that complained to DMV (an elderly person apparently with no sense of humor) and I received a letter from DMV telling me to turn it in and pick something else. :(

I only had "QQQQ" for about 7 months; the replacement was "-BFD-", my way of retaliating for having to give up "QQQQ". I ended up with "-BFD-" for a few years! The funny thing was, the clerk at DMV that gave me "QQQQ" gave a knowing smirk when I told her what I wanted but she gave it to me anyway! :D

My current plate is "SCHWING", taken from the movie "Wayne's World".

My aunt has 'BP 49' which is her initials and the year she graduated from high school. I ask for 'RP 69' which is my initials and the year I graduated. and you would never guess they would not approve because of the 69. Yet I have seen standard plates with 69 somewhere in the numbers.

So I ask for 'RLP13' and they accept! You would think '13' will be criminal but I guess not. :rolleye2:

Back in the days I had a Hemi with the plates 'HUMBLE', that will be another story.

Wow, someone doesn't have any sense of humor at all !!!

Sure, some of them don't belong, but I would say more than half are just fine by any normal (normal being the operative word) standard.

Amazing!

What's with the hatin' on "fun" in a couple of different variations? I understood when they wouldn't let me have "FNFUNFN" but what's the problem with "FUN-FUN?" And there was a least one other that mentioned fun in that list of banned plates...

Howie Carr did a segment on this very item this afternoon on his program.

Apparently, the plate for someone who wanted to say they love tofu was rejected. LVTOFU. Really. There are *numerous* Internet domain names, which, if read in a "certain" way spell things or make sayings that might be considered "offensive" to someone.

One of my friends has his initials followed by 69 on his bike, maybe it went through because that was his birth year?

One of my motorcycles is L6929 but that came right out of the box in order in Moultonborough.

My son's 91 Dodge pickup is 91CTD (Cummins Turbo Diesel)

I saw this on a bike at bike week this year. FCKFF I asked him how he got by with it, because I know know that you have to explain what it refers to, and he said he had his grandmother apply for him.

IPOLUTE: A NH vanity plate seen yesterday afternoon on an old Dodge 3500 dually pickup with a diesel engine, and twin vertical exhaust stacks similar to a big truck; parked and left running in front of the state liquor store at Center Harbor, and yes, it was stinking up the area with diesel fumes and diesel particles exhaust.... no kidding ......must be a Cummins built before the federal clean diesel law of 2007 or something?

It is an older Dodge with a Cummins and it is turned way up- that dually pickup would "blow the doors off" most cars on the road (in a very straight line)!
