Hi all,

I have relatives on the lake that I used to visit when I was younger, and next summer my family is getting a chance to visit the lake as well.

I have been lurking on the forums for a bit, and have searched a few of the sponsors for weekly vacation rentals, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask for advice or connections in a post.

There are actually 3 families that will be meeting up there, so we are looking for a 4 bedroom (or more) place that has a dock, preferably a sandy beach for the young ones, and a reasonably short boat ride to Rattlesnake.

I found a few that look good, but I wanted to see if anyone had anything that might be off the radar.

thanks in advance.

Also thanks for these message boards and all the pictures. This site has really taken me back to my childhood visits to "The Island" as we called it.

Hi Scott;

Welcome to the forum!!

You may wish to check "Ames farm Inn". I do not think they have any four bedroom cabins but I am pretty sure they have two and three. You could rent two two bedroom cabins next to each other.

Ames Farm is in a beautiful location right across from Diamond and Rattlesnake island. Check them out here... http://www.amesfarminn.com/main.htm

Good Luck!!

by far -- Ames Farm would be the best choice-- distance wise to Rattlesnake

another option would be www.AbakeeCottages.com ... same kind of set up ... 2-3 bedroom cottages, fully furnished (with slips) however this place is located closer to the wiers area

Homeaway.com

I have a cottage for rent on that site. My cottage isn't appropriate for your needs, but I'm guessing you'll find one that is! The site is extremely user-friendly. You'll be able to put in your parameters and find a cottage that fits your needs.

Good luck and enjoy your visit!

Thanks again for the great suggestions, I've found a few that meet the criteria, and now I just have to pick one or two and make some phone calls.

I did have another question for the folks in the forum though.

I remember arriving at the lake after our 10 hour drive from Pennsylvania and we would have to find a little grocery store, that was located on Route 11 I think. It had the word Owl in the name.

We would use that pay phone to call our relatives and they would come pick us up (at whatever cove they were using at the time). Remember that this was 25+ years ago, in the days before cell phones.

I doubt it is still there, or perhaps it is a 7-11 or something now. Does anyone remember, or better yet have a picture of it?

Owls Nest is the name of the restaurant on 11 that you're thinking of ... and it's still there (in fact, one of the responders to your original question mentioned that they have cabins).

Go here to see some great pictures and read about other things regarding the Owls Nest now called Wise Owl store. Scroll down for the pics... http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10367

thanks again all.

That is indeed the place. I didn't realize it was a restaurant or that they had lodging. I guess my memory is not what it once was.

Hello again,

I think we have found a place that will work for us.

I wanted to check here if anyone has any info on this place or the realtor who is listing it.

http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p900406

The place looks great, but there are no reviews listed (some sites list reviews, some don't).
