If you like Folk/Acoustic Music The Strawberry Patch at 50 North Main Street in Wolfeboro has started the Friday Night Coffee House again this year. This is a great place or hear some talented local musicians, or to play for an appreciative audience. The music starts at 6:30-7pm and goes till about 9:30.

There is no cover charge. Coffee, teas, and pastries are available. No alcohol is served.

We are a group of local musicians who get together every Friday night to share some songs. Hope you can join us!

It actually started last Friday. It will continue all winter every Friday night. Franz, from the Folk Cellar supplies the sound system and MCs. It really does make a nice evening! We are all there for the music.

If you can't make it Friday, the monthly open mic at The White Church in Tuftonboro is this Saturday evening.

BTW, no one (including John, the owner of the Strawberry Patch) is making a profit from either of these open mics. John runs the evening on contributions. Rather than a bill for your coffee, he just asks that you leave a contribution to help cover the heat and electricity.

I'm thinking of surprising Argie some night by secretly packing a guitar or two into the back of the minivan, getting a sitter for the kiddos, and just "popping in" at an open mic night so he can play... he'd love it but he'd never ask me to do something like that... I think it would make him one happy camper.

Do it! Both he and you will have a great time. Although it is a little scarey playing for people who actually listen!

Since there is no alcohol, if the kids are old enough and reasonably well behaved, they'll be welcome too.

If you see a guy with a 12 string guitar, say hello!

Ha! I was gonna pack Argie's 12-string... he has a Fender 12 that I bought him for a wedding present 11 years ago. He's got a Rameriz (sp?) 6-string classical and a Martin D16. I'd probably pack the Martin too.

No kiddos with us - we need our sanity. :D We're shooting for next Friday - Argie's gigging tonight at Gringo's in the Weirs and I'm a band widow.

We had a nice time tonight. A lot of new people showed up. I see Argie has that dread disease, G.A.S (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome) Guess it's a guy thing.

I've played 12 string forever, so most of my guitars are 12 strings. A 1961 Gibson B-45 12, two Takamines from the 80's, and a 1965 Martin D-12 20, along with a La Patrie Classical and an acoustic electric bass.

Franz's PA is set up to run the guitars miced or direct in if it's an acoustic electric.

I've got a 1979 Ibanez Roadster that has wonderful tone - love that thing, but I've been wanting an acoustic bass for several years now...

Women get G.A.S. too, but few will admit it. :D

All this talk of instruments makes me wonder how many musicians, other than guitarists, we have here on this forum?

It's a Rogue. Nothing fancy, just a nice inexpensive bass. I put Fender nylon tape wound strings on it and it sounds pretty good. Not very loud without an amp, but I'm not a very good bass player, so that seems to work for everybody. I usually bring it with me on Fridays, so if you're there you can try it out.

Mine is an older model with a passive pick-up. If you decide to get one, look for the newer model with the active pick-up.

My bass is also passive. Originally it was active but someone stripped the pre-amp out of it. I've found the wiring diagram for it and considered restoring it to being active, but I'm afraid to mess with the tone. For some player, tone is the Holy Grail. I found it on my first try and I know I'm lucky. (I play thru a Fender Bassman amp - solid state.)
