I am hanging on to summer as long as I can. Went swimming today ( in my pool) and made potato salad and burgers on the grill. Wondering if I were up there at the lake ....would I be taking a late season dip. Any brave souls still swimming? What's the water temp now?

We were in the water in Paugus Bay on Saturday and Sunday. A little chilly, maybe about upper 60's, but very enjoyable still.

I was at the beach today and went swimming. It was like a beautiful July beach day -- without the crowds.

All in all, a fabulous Monday. My life sucks!

Had given up my daily swim in Winni on 9/15. However, water backup to 68 degrees both Sunday and Monday (9/26) and of course a nice sunny day to warm up after coming out of the water. The latest I've ever been able to swim in all the years I have been here.

We spent about three hours anchored at Poplar Island yesterday. In three hours we had three boats pass by. The temperature gauge on the boat said that the water was 70 degrees. We went swimming multiple times and the water was great! It may have been 70 at the surface , but was a little colder below the surface. It was an awesome day!

We went to Braun Bay on Sat and Mon, bright sun and warm water. Sunday, we were at Robert's Cove and went in a few different times. As opposed to Braun Bay, we were in 15-20 feet of water. The last time we were out there a couple of weeks ago, I was first in the water and told my wife it was "refreshing". (cold first going in, then comfortable afterwards). This time, I was first in the water and told her it was "exhilarating" :D. (a little colder at first, but then it did get comfortable). We did hang out on our noodles for about 15 mins. each time.

Whoda Thunk it? The end of Sept and still going in the lake. Life is good!

upthesaukee, Were you the two that were anchored, and your wife was swimming with a noodle, or whatever its called, down in Roberts.
If you were it was nice to meet you, we were the ones in the bass boat that spoke with you for a short time.

Water was G O R G E O U S yesterday! I floated around on my inflatable for close to an hour before rolling over into the lake. Temp. of water was just shy of 70 degrees! And today will be another beauty. See you in the water!
Can't get enough of summer on the Big Lake!

My wife was in the water the past two days, just fine she reported.

We are volunteers in a UNH water quality sampling program and yesterday afternoon we were at a 95' deep site between Governors and Timber. Part of the process is to take a temperature profile down to 10 plus meters.
The surface temp was 71 F and at one meter it was 70 F. At 5 meters it was 67 F and way down at 10 meters (39.4 feet) it was only down to 66 F.

The lake is still quite warm.

The water's great this time of year. Feels like June.

Went swimming last Monday, diving on Sunday. It's surely dropped a few notches in the week that's passed, but still good. Lake is again like GLASS today...would be a wonderful time to kayak & fish. But I'm stuck at my desk...:(

...that was us. It's a nice place to go to hang out for a bit, and take a swim, as long as you don't mind being in deeper water.

We enjoyed the chat as well. Hope you and your fishing partner enjoyed our day as well.

Water temperature at East Bear Island this past weekend was 68 degrees, up from 62 degrees on the previous chilly weekend. Just left The Lake this morning - was calm all four days that we were there. Cruised to Center Harbor for ice cream on Saturday and cruised around several islands on Sunday.

I swam that late into the season when we had Thanksgiving on the island one year.

And yes, it was cold, but not nearly as cold as April.:D

Yes, I am still swimming. Having discovered Triathlon's late this summer, and having begun swimming again after many, many years, I am quite happy to put in at Ellacoya. I am wearing a swimming wetsuit, however, so I lose props for that, I'm sure. I hope the season goes deep into October. It's given me a whole new appreciation for the Lake.

I usually don't worry about the water temp until we get into Oct. I will be in this weekend to finish dock removal....

No fair.... if I was just in work I would have not minded seeing this.... But the fact that I was inside with the first cold of the season... Well glad to see someone enjoyed it.....

I was also in the lake several times this past weekend. I was in the camp kitchen, cooking and starting to close things up, so I was quite warm. The lake was just the perfect, refreshing temperature. I will admit that, when I told a friend of mine at 8:30 Saturday night, that I was heading for a swim, she looked at me like I had lost my mind!

I'll be up the weekend of 10/14-16. I suspect my boys and the dog will be in the water then. We're used to boating in Boston Harbor so any lake water usually seems warm!

The water was beautiful on tuesday. 70 plus and nobody around. It was the earliest we have pulled the lifts and raft out but it was nice not to do it in a wet suit for a change with the wind howling.

I used to traditionally wait much later to pull things myself. But I have found that the toys stayed in really for the foliage ride around the lake. And well after experiencing it for so many years, I don't miss it. And by getting the boats and dock out before the end of Sept, usually means there is a lot more relaxing come October.

I just took our swim-raft out. Walked (very slowly) out to almost neck-deep
water, tools in hand.

Ya know ... at first, the water temp really wasn't bad. After a few minutes, it was "comfortable". As a result, I took my time and once disconnected, I, kind of reluctantly, walked it in to the beach.

Now I need 4 (or 3 other) strong men to get the damn thing fully on shore.

The water was great on Monday and Tuesday this week. Most folks were gone, so I enjoyed reading on the beach and taking a few swims. Took the thermometer in and measured the temp at 3 feet, yup...70 degrees!

Unfortunately, those were the last swims of the season. Tonight I'm back in Joisey and the next trip to NH won't be until February. :(

Started taking our dock out yesterday, 11/1/2011. Had to remove the cross members, and got the first section out before it started raining. I could have continued, as I was already wet from being in the water, But the friend helping me was fully clothed and getting soaked. So we decided to postpone pulling the rest until next weekend. Will give me another reason to go for a swim.

The water was resfreshing, not cold at all. Have no idea what the actual temperature was.

Where did the summer go !!

both Saturday and Today. I spent about an hour or so today playing frisbee at Patrician Shores. It wasn't bad until the sun went behind the trees. This was a far cry from last Columbus day weekend. I'll take it!

My sister and I didn't swim, but we floated. We couldn't believe how warm the sun was. What a great day! We were all saying that we would be happy with weather like this day after day. Instead of taking the raft out of the water we felt like we should be putting it in the water.

Been a while since the last time I swam Columbus Day weekend without a wet suit. Heck! We even did a little skiing / boarding!

The water was 'invigorating' at first but it didn't take long to enjoy it. many folks were in the water at the various sandbars. I did take a dip to retreive a water supply hose on the south side of Sleepers and it was freezing after 6 feet!

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the 'indian' summer.

Sun Oct 9, went to Gilford town beach or a swim with 14 yr old grandson. ....... Not sure who enjoyed more, him or myself?PRICELESS ! I think this is the latest swim I've don in m lifetime.

Spent an hour+ sitting on the beach soaking up the sun and views. Only us, and another senior couple on the entire beach.
Like our own private beach !

If you didn't get outdoors, on the water, or in the water this w/e, you missed it. Next opportunity like this probably next May....

Well on Sunday Oct 9 I went into the lake for a quick swim and to take down a couple columns on the dock. While the water was a little cold at first I finnally took a dive in. woo woo. oh yeah, my dog found out how cold the water was, No she did not walk in, but sort of started about 4' from shore. Dog does not even bark at me anymore.

Water temperature at East Bear Island this past weekend was 57 degrees, down from 60 degrees on the previous rainy weekend. The cool water did not prevent the teenagers from taking a spin on their wake boards. Brrrrrr!!!

I think I am glad that I didn't know what the temperature was when I went in the lake this weekend. I swim at the boathouse dock, which gets churned up from the traffic through the channel, so it is usually colder than at the waterfront.
I knew it would be refreshing, but having a temperature number in my head likely would have kept me out of the water.....

I didn't get the chance to swim but I did take my dock out at 7pm Saturday evening with a half suit and head lamp in about 4 feet of water.

A hot shower and then a beer at the Bob Hut cured me.
