Meredith Neck Rd - no state money!

Oh well, what the heck, there's only so much money to spread around to all the state roads all over NH, and as this article says: The unnumbered state roads like Meredith Neck Rd are at the bottom of the list. So, while up in Campton-Thornton-Waterville Valley, State Road-Route 49, which was severely washed away in five different locations is getting rebuilt so fast by an army of three different road construction companies that it makes your head spin, some other state roads will just have to go without any needed repairs.

Well, if you are a Meredith Neck Rd user, then just wait until the snow starts to pile up because the state has cut back on their snow removal so it seems likely it will not be snow removed-driver ready at the daybreak, when some people are driving to work or to school.

The linked article says that the town, not the state, does the plowing. Since Meredith Neck Road needs to be plowed before the side roads off of it, I'm betting that Mike and his crew will be getting to it in a timely manner.

Cutting back on services is the oldest trick in the book.

When any government agency is told they have to cut back to stay within their budget, instead of getting rid of overstaffed office staff or bloated bennies, they always cut a vital service that will inconvenience the public. Reason is they want to draw sympathy to their cause and figure the public will demand that they restore funds.
Imagine the outrage when poor grandma gets stuck in a snowstorm because they had to cut back on plowing while no one in administration is asked to give up as much as a single sick/vacation/holiday.

Meredith neck road is in far better shape than many other roads in the area so it should be far back on the list.

What's missing from the NH-DOT budget right now is a 36-dollar/vehicle registration fee that was voted removed from all annual vehicle registrations about four months ago. So, the money that was there for state plowing and state paving, etc. is not what it was as of last year. Hopefully, someone in either the town or the state will figure a way to do the normal road work/plowing on Mereith Neck Rd, which is a non-numbered state road, by some creative budgeting or something.

By lowering the registration by $36, that adds up to something like 30-million dollars less/year for the NH roads, plus the state would be getting matching money from the feds as well. To pay that 36-surcharge seems very reasonable since it goes into road maintenance and repairs. $36 is less than one tank of gasoline!

I guess I don't see your concern with plowing that road because evidently the town has always done it.

I recall reading that contrary to what this article says, the state reimburses the town for snow plowing the road. Just have to wait and see what happens with the snow?

Something to think about.....just re-registered my car in Meredith the other day...and the check to the state costs 30-dollars less this year than last because the 30-dollar state surcharge was recently eliminated...http://www.laconiadailysun.com/story/denise-doyle-9-23 ... but the Meredith Neck Rd....which is an un-numbered state road.....needs to be repaved....but since the DOT has less money....like 90-million less.....this road will not get re-paved....something to think about.....save 30-dollars/years....or drive a smooth road.

My mistake....it was 30-dollars and not 36-dollars, and this link above has a lot of info in it.
