Hi, went to Conways in Moultonborough today for my fishing license and fishing supplies and looked like they were no longer in business, does anyone know if this is the case?

Yes, it is a private residence now.

Sorry to hear that, I'm going to miss the woman who ran the place, always had a kind word. Plus, I think it was the only place on the lake where you could get helgramites, the best bass bait!

Just in case you're ever over that side of the lake.

That is too bad. I bought my last hunting/fishing license there.:(

I am not an avid fisherman, so I don't speak with authority, but...
Fifteen years ago, there were many places to buy bait around the lake. Waldrons (now A.J's) in Meredith
Conways (retired in 2010, but still lives on the property)
Wolfeboro Bay Outfitters (left the area in 2008)
Alton Bay Bait & Tackle (the McManus brothers moved to Florida in 2004)
Paugus Bay Sporting Goods (closed, 2010)
Is AJ's the only place now on Winnipesaukee to buy bait?
I remember talking to one of the McManus brothers about 10 years ago. They thought that Conway's was a "gold mine" and wished they owned it. I don't know how true that was or whether the business should have been sold rather than closed.

Last I knew, Martel's on Winnisquam Ave in Laconia sold bait.
