My guess is that it was getting out of hand, and away from the thread's original topic. It seemed that personalities were getting a little involved and I'm guessing the Webmaster felt it was time to shut it down.

You're probably right... but I took the thread as being "in good fun" and nothing heavy, myself. I didn't think anyone was being overly passionate or even rude about anything... It was off topic, but then we've had some great fun with a tangent here before - like with a truck rolling into the lake...

It certainy had been off topic for a while...but my guess would be the final straw was when a poster started taking shots at another's spelling/grammar errors.
When it sinks that low, usually the thread has run it's course.
I'd still love to know what the "close to ground" comment even meant. And even more so, why the big secret?! He would continue to post in the thread, but it was like he sort of took pleasure in not just explaining it. Very strange.
