Webber Grill Problems

I have a Webber Grill that just started making a humming noise when I turn the gas on. I am wondering what is wrong? It seems to work OK, but I am worried about a leak. I bought it in the year 2000. Maybe it is time for a new grill? Any ideas????

Humming or whistling from the regulator: Outside temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, and the gas level within the tank may cause the rubber diaphragm inside the regulator to vibrate, making a humming or whistling sound. Although this sound may be alarming, this is NOT dangerous as long as it is not accompanied by the smell of gas. Simply adjust the burner settings and usually the sound will subside. If the humming sound persists, a change in atmospheric conditions will eventually stop the vibration.

Here's what Weber said:
HUMMING
A noise that sounds similar to "whistling" or "humming" is a normal condition when certain variables are just right. They include:
Fullness of tank
A newly-filled tank can put pressure on the tank, causing the regulator to vibrate or hum.
Temperature
Barometric pressure
These conditions put additional pressure on the tank.
Humidity - Rainy weather
These conditions can create an accumulation of water vapor inside the regulator which will cause the diaphragm inside to vibrate.
The diaphragm in the regulator may vibrate back and forth, which produces a noise. This is considered normal. There is nothing wrong, and the condition may come and go.
HISSING
From the small hole in the regulator
This hole is used for ventilation - it is normal for air to be released from this hole. If you do not smell gas, there is nothing wrong with the grill. This hole is simply releasing air as it was designed to do.
If there is a strong smell of gas even after the grill is started
There is a leak. Do a leak check with soap and water to locate the source of the leak.
The smell of gas can still be detected, but a leak check did not determine where it is coming from
Check to see if the regulator vent is leaking gas.

Webber actually has a call center you can reach and get someone on the phone. No kidding, I've used them before! Don't know the number just try to Google them I suppose. A help desk for grills, what will they think of next?

Did the hum sound like the tune, "Zippity Doo Dah, Zippity Yea, My oh My what a wonderful day....?"..could be the old Weber was just happy about being used. :D

I called them about a rebuild on my 15 year old Weber and the lady told me what I needed and how to do it. Everything was in stock and was reasonable. For 125 bucks I had a new grill.

By the way, did you see the $1600 Webber at Aubuchons?

I called them about a rebuild on my 15 year old Weber and the lady told me what I needed and how to do it. Everything was in stock and was reasonable. For 125 bucks I had a new grill.

By the way, did you see the $1600 Webber at Aubuchons?

Home Depot has the Weber S-620 listed for $1899....more grill than anybody needs!
I found one on EBay for 1200...way more than what my wife and I need....I had to go to CT to get it...brand new in the box, they ordered the natural gas model by mistake and didn't want to ship it back to CA..weighs just under 300 lbs.
I had to promise to cook every meal on it!! I refer to it as my "man grill". Weber is the only grill out there that is made MOSTLY right here in the USA...right in Illinois. Almost ALL the others are made in China!
Great piece of equipment, I don't expect I'll ever need another grill!

CALL WEBER! Cant say it enough. My experience with them is that even if it is uot of warranty, if they feel as though the part should not have broken they will cover it.

Hell you can even call them for cooking suggestions.

A former Farther in Law who passed a long time ago, could never remember more than a few words to any song, but would break into humming to keep up with the song. Cracked me up every time. :laugh:

Not about repairs, but just a suggestion..........If you have propane heat and cooking at your home, have a line installed to feed your gas grill. We did, and life is GOOD. No more trips to the store and the long wait to fill or exchange a tank and no more running out of gas right in the middle of cooking a couple of nice steaks.

I have been known to leave a a grill on from time to time! That is the only reason I have not used the 120 gallon (full) tank for my grill. The previous owners used it for a gas log. I am looking at propane powered gensets.
