political visitors?

since there is another thread about "celebrities" in the area, I was just wondering which politicians have come to the lakes region for campaigning purposes, visits, etc. I was told that President Bush ( I think the first one) had stayed at Chase House in Meredith. I heard that Sarah Palin is heading towards N.H. this week too, though perhaps to somewhere in the southern part of the state. Hopefully she's clear on the fact that N.H. isn't in the northwest as she once stated.

We do have a prominent political figure " Celebrity " among us that we affectionately refer to as " FLL ", a political fashion'easta if you will, and I am sure that he'll be along shortly to fill us all in on some more. :)

Most political's want to keep a low profile while at The Lake, as they don't want to show how much of a good time they are enjoying here.

Next Friday at 6-pm the Mount Washington shoves off from its' Weirs Beach dock on its' annual Belknap County Republican - Lincoln Day dinner cruise. It's a three hour cruise going all around the Big Lake that's open to anyone, costs $45/person, and you get a choice of roast beef or chicken and there's some big potential for maybe a Republican presidential primary candidate to BE THERE to be drumming up some local support, make a short speech, and hopefully get their photo into the news.

Whenever local Belknap County Republicans get together like that, you can be sure that a good number are packing some serious heat, ie concealed handguns, just like down at the statehouse. New Hampshire Republicans and their near and dear, very own, personal Smith & Wesson, Glock, Colt, Sig, Beretta, or Ruger......apparently they just don't want to be leaving home without it when just an eight dollar BROOM would be much more usefull for cleaning up the New Hampshire Statehouse!

Losa dos Fat, Vota Democrat, and don't be packing that Republican heat onto the Mount!:D:laugh:

Since Mitt Romney has a home on the lake I expect that information and comments will be posted here if he becomes the Republican candidate and brings his entourage and an army of media to the lake. Mitt's candidacy should also create a bump in site visits as Lake Winnipesaukee receives national publicity and people all over the world say "Lake what?".

He did at least at one time... I don't know if he still does... I know back when he was trying to be a governor in Ma., that he caused a stir when the Massachusetts State Police, tried to put swim lines out in the lake to keep people away. The Massachusetts State Police then found out the NH Marine Patrol, carried more weight then they did, and had to remove said swim lines, that where a danger to navigation.....

We were listening to xm-sirrius in the car on Sat. and the David Webb show was all about the Belknap Republican's tour on the Mount. It was such fun to listen to and we were so surprised. He was broadcasting out of Barnstead I think but had been on the Mount the night before.

I would like to add that this doesn’t mean that Forum members have license to go on tangents for their cause or throw barbs at others of differing political views.

yeah........I certainly wasn't intending to stir up any political discussions. I'm sure we all have our own opinions and points of view on that topic. I am just aware of the fact that whenever anyone declares their intention to become a presidential candidate, it's not long before they are heading off to New Hampshire. On Monday you have the Repulican candidate's National Debate. I know candidates have included many cities and towns throughout New Hampshire on their campaign trail, from a diner in Manchester to North Conway. Just wondering if in anyone's memory any of them have stopped by the lakes region to campaign?

Mitt Romney can often be found around town in summer, even when it's not a political season. I've seen him at Baily's Bubble in town and he's a regular viewer and sometimes participant in our July 4th Parade.

I've seen Jon Huntsman twice so far, once at Jo Green's Restaurant in Wolfeboro and I was also on the Mount Washington for that political cruise. Tim Pawlenty is down at Jo Green's right now as I write this. I love having the opportunity to see and hear all the political candidates during primary seasons. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity and I urge everyone to be a participant. Decisions made here in NH effect the entire country.

Mitt has this Cypress Gardens style, waterski stunt that he likes to do out by Springfield Point. He took an old six foot wood step ladder, screwed it down to an old wood aquaboard, and will climb up to the near top of the ladder while waterskiing that aquaboard that is being towed by a motorboat, and here's the really impressive part; he can do it with his head of hair perfectly held in place!

Should Mitt & Sarah decide to run together on the same ticket, they can call themselves the "good hair ticket," and learn to work that aquaboard stunt as the good hair - Winnipesaukee waterski team!

Lady Jane, during the Months leading up to the primaries in the 2008 elections, every candidate, both D and R were in the Lakes Region and most right here in Wolfeboro. It's an amazing time to live here.
