Guess this boat

We were coming home from the lake on 93s and there was a ton of traffic so we voted to take back roads and see if we could get in front of it and possibly see places that we normally drive by on the highway.

Along the way we saw (Actually I was the only one that cared:D) the boat pictured here. It was in a lot that looked like a dumping ground, no business, no house, just lots of stuff with this boat on a trailer in the middle. There were no markings on the boat (Other than what looked to be an old Buick logo on the dash that looked added) and I have been trying to find out what it was, the closest I can come is an Aristo Craft Runabout.

Any Guesses?

I remember the Aristo Craft from the 50s early 60s. I have most of the Bob Speltz "Real Runabouts", and other similar books..no Aristo Craft.

The boat pictured is no Aristo Craft. The Aristo Craft I can see in my mind is around 12-14' and made out of plywood..two (or three) tone paint, Outboard powered, 20-25 HP, low freeboard and racy looking.

It reminded me of a more utilitarian version of a Sid Craft, which was a race boat..outboard powered. The Sid was referred to as a "utility". You drove it on your knees...no seats. I had one with a Merc Mark 20H in the late 50s. :look: NB

I think that you have hit it it right on the nose. Check out: http://www.aristocraftboats.com/fiberglassbro.html. The fins and the forward deck hatch look very similar to models shown on the website. There should be a data plate somewhere on the inside of the stern.This boat is just begging to be restored, hopefully someone will.

It sure looks like its double. The seats are the same (no cushions in the one you found) and the lines are a match. The dash is the same too. This boat would be worth restoring as I bet it is very rare. Wish I had the time and $$ to do a project like that.

This one is still with the original family. Asheboro, NC Here what the owner says about it:
"1963 Funliner - My late Father bought her new. There’s alot of memories in that old boat. I still remember my Dad skiing behind her on the intracoastal waterway with Mom driving. I know this location well and often wonder about this interesting vessel on the side of the road. The boat is parked at a business that is housed in the old train depot visible in the background. The "dumping" ground is actually a treasure trove of old oven/stove parts. A very lucrative restoration business is located here for vintage ovens/stoves.

...I "vote" AristoCraft...wouldn't be a Century, because Century didn't build anything fiberglass until 1966...sidenote...Miklos, Century restorer, has a son named Steve that is one of the most knowledgeable Velocity "set-up" and rigging guys out there...he can make a Velocity 22' SING...small world...quite a terror in A-class offshore...REALLY like that oldie...is it for sale or..?...

A Ghetto Glider could also be a tricked out motorcycle. The routine was to slowly "Cruise" through the Hood...ie;.. "Profiling" ..at slowspeed so you would be SEEN by the inhabitants. :) NB

PS: Part of my upbringing was in Paterson, NJ, in the fifties. I moved out in 1959 when I went in the NAVY. It wasn't the Hamptons.

This one—in pink and white—was rented-out to a Florida storefront along a major highway. I stumbled upon it a little later, parked nearby. He'd been asking $7000 for it, but "might take $5000". Others couldn't avoid getting their pictures taken in front of it.

That is a 56' 410 Super America. There were a total of 5 Ferrari's in their production history that came from the factory with fins or you (as the original owner) could have the coach fitter add to customize your car.

That is an unbelievably ugly automobile.

When I was a teen I worked for a guy in York Beach who had a 1957 Ferrari. A little old lady broadsided him as he was driving by and totaled it.

My '55 Belair had the Coach and Body by Fisher
I knew several people with Buicks like that. My grandfather had a '59 Chevy with nice flat fins that made a good table for our breakfast stops on the way to the lake. It was the first car that brought us to NH in '59. Four adults and three kids.

The black car that a few thought was really ugly is a 1959 Buick Electra 225, the 4-door sedan (not the pillerless hardtop-sedan). The body style was used for two years, '59 & '60.
As for the black boat, it was made by AristoCraft in the 1960's. The model is the Funliner 17. It came as an outboard, with either this hardtop model, or an open cockpit. It's the little sister to the popular AristoCraft 19 with the sliding hardtop, the 19 being powered by an I/O. Both were great utility boats. I believe there are youtube videos of both boat models, and if you google "1959 Buick," you will find dozens of pictures of this big old boulevard cruiser; sedans, coupes, wagons, and convertibles. (My uncle had a silver '59 Buick Invicta convertible.).
