Town Lines - where are they?

Anybody know a good (current) resource that will clearly show me how the lake is divided by town? I'd like to see how the islands are divvied up.

Current USGS topo maps should show this information.

This site has scans of older topo maps. I don't think the city and town boundaries would have changed much, so the 1956 series should be fine for your needs.

Once they finish loading, you can click on the little button in the lower right hand corner to expand the map.

The USGS maps of 1956 are identical with current USGS maps. However, a slight adjustment needs to be made to the Moultonborough/Meredith town line. On USGS maps, the Moultonborough town line runs in a straight line from a stone monument in Center Harbor to the southwest tip of Long Island.

When Bizer was doing research for it's chart of Winnipesaukee, we stopped in town assessors' offices. They are a great source of information. According to the assessors' offices, Five-Mile Island is entirely within Meredith; Hull, Little-Six-Mile, and Ozone Islands are entirely within Moultonborough.

The Meredith assessor even showed Bizer a copy of a 1909(?) law in which the state legislature assigned those islands to the towns.

Incidentally, a similar adjustment needs to be made in Winnisquam Lake. Three Islands (that's their name) are in Meredith and not Laconia as depicted on USGS maps.
