Looking for a good fishmonger near the Lake. We enjoy good quality seafood and it seems to be difficult to find, at least on the Wolfeboro end of the Lake, lobsters are easy to come by, but the rest is not. We are used to fresh daily seafood here in PA, but when we are on Barndoor Island we just can't find it. Tried Wolfecatch - very limited selection and whoa the prices! Supermarket stuff is not up to par. Any suggestions?

Captain Bart's in Moultonborough on 109. He will be open soon for the year. Bart or one of the people that work with him go to the docks in NH or Maine daily for fish!

Thanks, have seen the place numerous times, never stopped in. Do you know the hours?

Believe it or not....EM Heath's has great seafood.Heath's uses the same supplier (Mehan Fisheries) that supply's us and several other restaurants in the area.
Most of his fish comes out of Portland and his trucks deliver within a day of it being in the water....The other supermarkets use a lot of previously frozen and farm raised products from S.America and Asia.
Best day to buy seafood is wed through sat.

A second for Heath's. Although the selection is a little limited by the catch, I have never had a less than great seafood purchase from them.

Strong recommendation for the fishmonger in Fiddlehead Farms store in downtown Alton. Just opened last year. Every piece of fish I got from there was fantastic. They also have a butcher, a bakery, good prices on produce plus beer, wine, etc. I hope they did OK over the winter; I really would love to see them succeed.

I second Fiddleheads, get stuff there every week and is always fresh. Little pricey on some things but the "you get what you pay for" saying holds true there. And the pastries , let's just say that I try to ignore them as I walk through but it is difficult. very difficult.
