My daughter (age 12) will be attending Nokomis this summer and I was hoping to get some feedback and words of advice from experienced alumni or parents. This will be her first overnight camp. She's excited, but a little nervous as well ... so I was hoping to share some personal experiences with her ... thank you!

My place is on Bear Island and a good friend/neighbor went there for several summers. She absolutely loved it.

If your daughter continues to go and likes it enough she can go back and be a counselor.

You couldn't ask for a prettier place to be for camp...Winnipesaukee, on an island, in the summer...perfect!!

Our two daughters went there quite a few years ago and loved it. They liked it so much they wanted to go back the next year. At least at the time it wasn't real fancy, but it was very comfortable.

my daughter went there for 3 years, loved it as soon as she settled in (age 9 - 12 i believe)... lot's to do in the pretty traditional "new england lake camp" - sailing, swimming, water skiing, crafts, etc... I don't expect it has changed dramatically so hopefully she doesn't expect cell phone, texting, and facebook (but I could also be wrong)...

it's a great experience for any kid to go away overnight for a few weeks (and a great experience for the parents too!)

My son went to Camp Lawrence and my daughter to Nokomis. Both liked it. Easily made friends, had a ton of activities, and learned some good life lessons along the way (teamwork, responsibility, etc.).

I'm sure your daughter will have a great time. Enjoy the activities, enjoy the view, enjoy the new friendships.

Our daughter, now 21 years old went to Camp Nokomis for 10 years, from age 10 to age 20. She had a wonderful experience as a camper, then as a counselor. As parents, we can't say enough wonderful things about the camps...our son went to Camp Lawrence for 10 years as well. Both camps offer a wide range of activities, and just plain old wholesome fun.
Both kids love the camps and the lake so much, we bought a camp on Bear Island so that we can all enjoy it for many years :) Feel free to send a private message if you want to ask more specific questions, we are happy to help you out!

Our neighbor at the lake is sending her daughter (about the same age as yours) to Camp Nokomis this summer. It will be this girl's first camping experience.

My boys all went to Camp Lawrence for many years, and my daughter went to Pleasant Valley Camp for Girls which is another Y camp in Tuftonboro. (It seemed like a carbon copy of Nokomis, except it's on the mainland.) All of my kids loved camp. When a couple of my kids heard that our friend would be going to Nokomis, the reaction was, "Awesome. She's gonna love it."

I think it's a great experience. It definitely paves the way for lots of things, including dropping them off at college! Best wishes...I'm sure she'll have tons o' fun!

My son was one of the youngest kids at 6 years old to go to camp Lawrence.
That first year Mom had more tears than my son. 2 weeks of activates made our son a very happy person. Soon as he got off the boat he asked if he could go back next summer for 4 weeks. This kid had zero separation anxiety. He spent the next 8 summers going back making new friends and finding old ones.
The best times of his young life!

I am also sending my daughter to Camp Nokomis this summer , she will be 13 at time of arrival. My neighbor "Wakeboard Mom" has helped my daughter stay excited as she is a bit nervous. She did attend an overnight summer camp 4 years ago and as you can assume was very nervous but when I picked her up she wished she could stay longer. I have only heard wonderful things about the camp and know your daughter as well as mine will have tears in their eyes when it is time to leave. My daughter is attending Aug 13 session if your daughter is going the same time feel free to send a private message and maybe we can get the girls to hook up by email prior to camp.
She will love it.
Teri :)

We stay right behind the camp on Bear and anytime I see them out hiking or on their way to the church they look like very happy campers
