So....Same spot today, there were two Eagles there. Same fish or what was left of it. After I pulled over one flew off the other grabbed the fish and flew into a tree with it....
I got a short video as well. As soon as I get it down loaded I'll post it up here.

Cool, where was the spot? I had a fly by Sunday in Melvin. Too far away for a good pic I think. I haven't downloaded it yet. I would love to get some eagle pics.

Right along the causeway at 20 Mile Bay. That is where I caught the one yesterday as well. Looks like a pile of old fish left from the Derby maybe. I guess if you want to get a good picture just throw a fish out on the lake....Hmmmm maybe I will.....

I feed the eagles in 20 mile bay each weekend during the winter. We clean our fish and put the remains out on the ice for the eagles. There are up to three eagles that show up. Sometimes they will fly overhead and screach to be fed.

Thanks so much for telling us about how you feed the eagles. I love it. A couple years ago, when we had WORSE snow than we have now, and it had a hard, frozen crust on the top, the Audubon Society had commented in local media that the owls and other raptor birds were having trouble finding enough to eat, because the critters they go after were tunneling under the "snowcap" ... so, I was buying inexpensive steak, cutting it up and putting it out on top of the snow. Of course, I don't know if owls got it or a fox or whatever ... but somebody was chomping it down. Audubon said that you could buy mice and "euthanize" them by putting into freezer, then put mice out for the owls ... but I couldn't do that.

Today I had two huge, golden eagles visit my fish pile. These were easily twice the size of the bald eagles that stop by. Very cool to see.

The Golden is quite rare in the midwest and even more rare in the east ... are you sure it was a Golden and not a turkey buzzard? The buzzards are quite large, and their coloring can mimic and adult Golden.

I am positive. We get a lot of turkey vultures on the pile too. The Goldens are quite distinctive with their large feet and long talons. My camera doesn't do well with long range shots. These eagles were skitish. When I went out on my deck for a closer shot they flew off. They were easily a couple hundred yards out. My wife and I watched them through binoculas.

You need to buy a Canon SX30IS camera. It has an excellent telephoto built in and is simply a point and shoot. No need to scare anything up to 4 miles away.:D

Check this out! Live webcam of an eagle's nest in Iowa. First chick hatched yesterday! I'm hooked, and may not accomplish a blessed thing today, waiting for the second chick to hatch! Enjoy: http://biggeekdad.com/2011/03/decorah-eagles-webcam/

Dan,
My sister watched the first chick hatch yesterday. I would have seen the second one if I hadn't decided to go grocery shopping. :( Maybe I'll catch the last one hatch if I'm lucky!

My wife forwarded this to me today. She got it via FaceBook. INCREDIBLE live video. I watched it for an hour while the eaglets were fed several times.

This eagle nest is in Maine right along the ocean. No offspring have been produced for the last three years. Not sure how many eggs are in this nest but I think they were laid in late March.

141,000 people, on line watching right now. That is like a good sized city, all watching an eagle sleep. AWESOME! :D
