Is the lake still O.K. for snowmobiling? Is there enough snow or is it mostly ice now??

Passable but tough. Dan you can do it but it aint fun. I rode from Pier 19 to Cow Island then from Cow to Long Island then up Braun bay yesterday (Monday.)
The lake is mostly large areas of ice with packets of snow cover. That snow is like concrete. While I had good luck with engine temp I was worried about the hyfax sliders, I could smell them.
Bottom line is that I will use the lake when only necessary, no leisure cruising here.

Thanks H-Nut!
Unless we get snow, looks like ATV's will make the better mode of transportation out to camp this weekend.

Agreed w H-nut. There are sections of clear, bumpy ice and very little snow pack. The good news is there is no more slush to worry about!

I’ve driven from Laconia to Meredith and all I’ve seen is a frozen mess. Not much if any snow left on the ice so unless you have lots of picks or a fan cooled sled I wouldn’t recommend the lake. And to top it off if we get rain there are reports of up to an inch possible with Friday’s storm.

I thought the forecast had been revised to all snow, no rain? Likely heavy wet snow, but no rain. We were out on the ice last weekend to get to the trails, and the lake ice is really rutty and bumpy, tho not quite as bad on Kanasatka as Winni. One sled overheated, but we kept cooling it down with snow and it was fine. If we do get the 6-10 inches and no rain, trail conditions definitely will improve - some areas are getting quite worn.

My money is on Matt Noyes on NECN. Need to find out what he is forecasting.
I don't bother with the Weather channel any more. You hear their forecast and wonder if any has looked out the WINDOW lately.
We sure could use 6+ for our Progressive Dinner Ride the Saturday!

The weathe Channel and Weather.com should be the last forecast to watch. Way too generalized.Watch the local guys that have the experience. NECN has a pretty good track record as far as I'm concerned. I'll go with 5-10 inches with mixed precip at the lake.

Even though there is a progressive dinner in the late afternoon, will there be an organized ride from the kitchen in the morning?

Can't these people EVER get it right?
From yesterday at 5am to noon it went from 3-6 with strong possibility of eventual change to rain. Now it's 6-12 and we just don't have a clue about what else it might do.
Anyway back to the question. The lake should be great for riding with even 6 inches of heavy wet snow dumped on it.
