I'm looking at a place on the Basin next to Winter Harbor and was wondering if anyone has experience with the area. It looks like a nic, quiet area, but I've only ever seen bass boats passing under the bridge. Is it passable for a 21ft br?

The Bizer chart says the "bridge" has 5.8 feet vertical clearance and depth under 3 feet. That would depend on the lake water level at any given time. I've been through there with a 20' deep "V" .. w/V-8 powered outdrive. Lift the drive up a little and take it easy. There are rocks here and there but it's quite do'able. Height..and Width of a windshield would probably be the controlling factor.
The "bridge" is really a large diameter galvanized corrugated sewer pipe.. :D NB
Our 21ft FourWinns bowrider does not fit....or maybe I am just too wimpy to go for it! :)

Drove right up to it, Aug 2009. 24' Crowline bowrider...I thought if I laid the folded canopy completly flat, I might have a shot...but lost interest about 20 yards out...
Enough water, I think...but the windshield??? Not so much.

I would shut down my engine, raise the outdrive and push through with paddles or a mooring hook. A person on each side of the boat should be able to keep from getting scratched.....even if it's a tight squeeze it should only take a few minutes.

Not much water going under the bridge. In the Spring the water is up and so you don't hit the rocks but there is little clearance under the bridge. In late Summerand Fall the reverse is true. The last time we were in there was many years ago and all of the boats in there were probably under 16' long. Suggest you check with present waterfront Basin owners and they will give you the best advice.

We have been going through there for the last 20 years with a 4 winns Horizon 190 - measuring 20' 2" with the swim platform. It's a bit narrow, but we have never had a problem unless it gets late in the fall and low water. The hardest is when the wind is blowing or when all the jet skiers are going through and don't listen for a whistle or horn blow. You should, as in other areas too, sound your horn as you approach and listen in return for any approaching boat. There is not room for boats side by side and throwing it in reverse is not that easy. The channel from the Winter Harbor side is not well marked and you best head straight on for the passage - there are boulders right and left. When you pass through the culvert, you need to turn off to the starboard side to pass through the channel markers - go between them - again big boulders on either side. If you have a bimini take it down and same goes for the anchor light or you'll be playing percussion on the culvert ribs. Good luck.

I've been through there many times—in a kayak—it wasn't scary at all! ;)
Tubing or waterskiing inside the tiny "Basin" appear to be challenging: any two boats with skiers are advised to travel around in the same direction.
If you're buying a place there, I'd urge to postpone commitments until late Summer.
Any location's winter appearance is going to be different. :eek2:
It's not really that hard to go through there once you get used to it. They have to lift their props in the fall and watch for rocks. The height is the biggest issue, not the length of the boat.

Besides the boat passage issue, if you like to swim, you may be disappointed in the water quality in there.
Yes, there is a lot of milfoil in there. I think they are treating it this spring or summer.

The water quality in there is not great, it's also very shallow with lots of weeds and yes the milfoil has taken over in there big time. It is pretty quiet in there, great place to fish, not sure I'd want to swim in there.

I might add something that I originally hesitated to mention. When I was in there it was late September, the air was warm and there was NO breeze in the Basin. The Basin is surrounded by high ground and trees and as such I don't see any way a "cooling" breeze could get in there from any direction. :look: NB

I went in there once and was turned off ( so to speak by the milfoil infestation ).
However, it was protected from Mother Nature, and a seem-ably calm area for water skiing. I just felt that I didn't want to have my boat- prop cutting it up and spreading the milfoil any further.
As they say, to each their own...
