Listening to the scanner. Plane crash in the vicinity of Broadview terrace on Governor's Island, on the lake. Pilot walked away, and PD make contact with him around the GI Clubhouse. Ambulance folks to check pilot out, but evidently no injuries per PD. Film at 11:00:laugh: (Can laugh knowing no injuries.)

Seems the pilot, whose plane is a tail-dragger (two wheels up front and a small wheel under the tail section), was testing the snow to see if it would support the plane by doing a "touch and go". T & G is where a plane touches down and then power is applied to take off again, commonly used to practice landings.
Landing a plane on snow (even with large tires (we called them tundra tires up in Alaska)) to test whether the snow would support the plane is reminescent of driving an Expedition on the ice in Sanders Bay to test the ice.
Fortunately no injuries.

Seems like people will go to any length -- any length at all -- to win this year's Jimmy contest.
