Miniature Steam Railroad

I just stumbled upon some fascinating photos in the PhotoPost section. There's a series of five photos of a miniature steam railroad, fully functioning, with the operator sitting on the locomotive. The photos are from 1978, and there's some info posted under each photo. I hope some of you enjoy them as much as I just did. :D

Don't know where this model railroad is, but, there is a 6 inch track in Ossipee that has live steam engines. It normally takes place the first or second week-end in July.

They will give you rides on their trains, but watch out for your feet, they stick way out. Lots of fun to watch and enjoy.

Joe, do you happen to know the man's name who runs it in Ossipee? My grandparents had a friend that ran them back in the early and mid eighties. The name is literally on the tip of my tongue, but I can't get it! Even if it is not the same family, it would be fun to take my kids!

There's also an operational train at the train museum in the Intervale area which you can ride on, and I am totally drawing a blank on the name of the place. You can go into the museum for a fairly nominal fee and there are stationary models, past and present, of all scales; operational set ups enclosed in glass (and I mean HUGE set ups) which you start up with the push of a button. As someone said about the one in Ossippee, the name is on the yip of my tongue but not quite there!

The name is winkley. He passed away a few years ago, But they still bring out the train on the 4th of July weekend. It is on Chickville road at Stillings Road.

I am completely enthralled with these miniature railroads, and am now anxiously awaiting the warmer weather so I can go check them out in person! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your photos, too! :D

Thank you so much! Winkley...of course! I'll have to dig and see if I have any old pictures of that! My grandparents lived near there. In fact, they used to own garland Pond, and donated it. I love it there! Thank you so much for bringing these old memories back to the surface!
