Did anyone else feel the earthquake last night? The Laconia Citizen reports it as a 2.6 magnitude, centered 15 miles northwest of Laconia. Its the first one I ever felt. It was as if something hit the ground hard, but there was a sustained "twang" as it dampened out, lasting less than a second. Then, a few settling creaks in the house over the next 30 seconds or so. A very cool experience.

Yes I felt it in Tuftonboro. I was watching tv and felt a rumbling similar to thunder or when a jet goes by close overhead. Had to mute tv to be sure what I was feeling. My wife went on line this morning and confirmed there was an earthquake. Also felt the one in September when there was more shaking and actually had a little rattling. Read about it at USGS.

Was watching a movie and heard a very loud "Boom" and it shook my entire house. I originally thought it was a tree that had fallen relatively close to my house. Oh well...

I felt it here in Laconia. It woke me out of a dead sleep, and I thought it was a plow truck coming up the street. There was a deep rumbling, accompanied by a weird vibration. Both cats were asleep on the bed and leapt to their feet with wild looks of terror in their eyes for a few seconds. I had no idea what it was, and almost wondered if I had dreamt it, until I saw the cats!:laugh:

I heard it here in Weirs Beach. It woke me up and scared me but my husband slept right through it. Like Pepper, my kitty also got woken up and was very scared.

When we bought our house on the Lake, our insurer asked if we wanted earthquake insurance. I laughed, but investigating further it seemed a bargain, so I have it. I'm a little nervous about natural disasers as our home had been totalled in a hurricane.

I slept thru it. Now I understand why my kitties didn't want me to leave this morning, it was very pronounced.
According to the maps, it was on the far side of Squam Lake (relative to Moultonboro), looks like Sandwich, near the Holderness line.

I requested to add earthquake insurance to our homeowners policy and the agent laughed and asked if I was from CA. I responded no, just someone who understands earthquakes can occur on the east coast. Sure enough we had a small earthquake the day our new policy went into effect! Not big enough to cause damage, but it reassured me that the small cost was worth the peace of mind!!!

I felt it in Meredith. I was not sure what it was but ended up thinking it was thunder. An earthquake never entered my mind even though I was in a good size one several years back in Las Vegas. I never think of one in New England.

Very near the Morgan-Percival loop trail. Would NOT want to in those boulder caves when an earthquake hits!

Felt it and heard it here in Meredith. Never entered my mind that it was a quake. Thought it sounded like a big truck rumbling down the road.

Ashland is the geographic center of New Hampshire, so this quake was centered in the geographic center of the state....like it hit a bullseye target attached on top of NH.
Heard a teacher from PSU on tv say the quake was due to areas inside the earth readjusting to no longer being slightly compressed by the weight of the ice glaciers of ten thousand years ago weighing down on top of the earth's surface. The downward pressure is no longer there because the glaciers have melted, and the planet is slowly springing back to its' prior condition. The earth was no doubt thinking: "Thank God that glacier finally melted.....hey....that thing was no lightweight!"
Just like when you go to the beach, fall asleep, and your girlfriend buries you under a pile of sand!
