The Webmaster’s Dream Cam fund total as of August 20, 2004 was $247.75 :)

Sadly, the fund total as of September 21, 2004 is only $557.75 (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/weirscamfund.html).

That’s about ten dollars a day in growth over the past month. Sounds great; however, the First Annual Forum Gathering (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/photopost/data/15016/20IMG_4816-med.JPG) raised two hundred dollars of that amount. That means the fund grew by $110.00 without the Gatherings participation. That’s about a $3.00 per day growth rate. The fund is about $650.00 short of its goal and at a $3.00 per day pace, it will take over 216 days for the Webmaster to realize his Dream Cam, or sometime in late April. That is a sad show of support. Just my opinion; yours may differ…

Remember, the intention of the Webmaster’s Dream Cam fund is to provide an opportunity for the forum members to show their support and appreciation to the Webmaster for his time, effort, energy, and financial contributions for our betterment.

Also remember, one grain of sand at a time will fill the bucket…

If 44 people send $15.00, the Dream Cam will become a reality.

Or, if 650 people send a dollar, the Dream Cam will become a reality.

Please, show your support and appreciation to the Webmaster; Think Dream Cam... :rolleye2:

GWC makes an excellent point ... if we each make a contribution, the goal can most certainly be achieved. If you haven't contributed yet, please give what you can to this very worthwhile cause.

No thermometer yet but here is the donation page (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/weirscamfund.html) that shows how to donate and how much has been received so far.

Thanks to everyone for your interest and willingness to support the WeirsCAM Upgrade!

For those who are still curious or puzzled, below is one of the original threads - click it to read and become more informed about the Webmaster's Dream Cam.

Click the link to become more informed. :rolleye2:

P.S.- The donation amount is however much you feel appropriate - $650.00 more is needed. It would be safe to feel free to donate between $1.00 and $650.00 - your option. ;)

P.P.S.- As you may have read in one of the threads, the Webmaster's desire is for this site to be free to all. The donation for the Webmaster's Dream Cam is simply that - a donation. Membership and participation are still free, well, almost - you still must connect to this site to enjoy. :D

P.P.P.S.- It would be nice if a Zoom Lens were also included in the Webmaster's Dream Cam.

LEN-M848 Motorized Zoom Lens (http://www.stardot-tech.com/netcam/zoom.html) (NetCam MP) $549

8~48mm, 45°-8°, Motorized Zoom/Iris/Focus, Zoom in and out through web interface, iris controlled automatically from camera.
Note: Not available as separate item, must be purchased with NetCam MP.

P.P.P.P.S.- This is an example of a Lake webcam that does have the benefit of a zoom lens (http://www.abakeecottages.com/vidcam.htm). It would also appear that they are using the smaller NetCam; rather than the NetCam MP.

Thank you, in advance...

OK I sent my money in, now it is up to the rest of you who love the site but have not donated as of yet. So many good things are said at this site and so many pictures too! Why not show you appreciation by making a donation now?
If you have a pay pal account it is even easier!!!

As of today I have received $777.75 for the Weirscam upgrade fund. This does not include any proceeds from the Forum Gathering since I have not yet received them. Those donations could put the fund over $1000.

Although the fund is approaching the goal of $1200 I have run out of time this fall to order and install the new camera and 200' of cable. Except for emergencies, I only have access to the roof and building that the Weircam is on until the Pier shuts down in a few weeks. It isn't possible to reach the goal, get the camera and hardware and install it that quickly. I have limited time and I'll be away at the end of the month. Even if I could get it in at the last minute I would not have a comfort zone to deal with any potential startup problems.

For this reason the old camera will have to make it through one more winter (#6). When the fund reaches its goal I'll order everything I need and get it working here at home. The new camera will give me new capabilities and I'll have time to work all that out over the winter. As soon as the Pier opens in the spring I'll run the new cables and hopefully the new camera will be plug and play. It should be worth the wait.

My sincere thanks to everyone who has made donations large and small. When the new camera is showing a crystal clear view of the Lake you'll know you made it possible.

Including the donations collected at the Forum Gathering (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1120) the fund total is now over $1000 at $1072.75. The goal of $1200 is very close and sincere thanks again to everyone who made donations.

Don,
Have you received the money raised at ForumFest I and thereafter? After all, we did put an Outlaw in Charge!
Are you looking forward to upgrading to the new camera or are you dreading the task?
Thanks again, for everything. We appreciate you and your hard work and are looking forward to the fruits of your labor. Give a holler if you need help. I am sure there is someone on the forum that has experience and might be of service.
Sincerely,
RG

I personally have been impressed with the quality of the "Snake Eyes" webcam. Will this cam be up during the winter? Also, will the new webcam have the same quality picture as this one? I'm just curious.
Thank you Island Girl for providing and maintaining a camera so that we all may connect to the lake even when we're far away. :) And best of luck to the Webmaster in your quest for a new cam!!

The fund total as of October 15, 2004 is $1197.75

Who will put the Webmaster's Dream Cam Fund (http://www.winnipesaukee.com/weirscamfund.html) over the top?

Only need $2.25 more to accomplish the task. :rolleye2:

Thanks to several donations today we have now exceeded the goal and have collected $1245 for the new camera! I'm overwhelmed by your generosity and trust in me to spend the funds wisely.

My plan is to take some more time to research the camera to be sure I'm making the right choice. I'll then order the camera, lens, hardware, cable, etc. When it arrives I'll set it all up at home so I can get familiar with its operation and features. I'll also be experimenting with full motion video to see if that is doable. The WeirsCAM page will also have to be redesigned to accommodate the larger high-resolution images.

I'll post reports here as I make progress. When I have the camera running in test mode I'll post a link to it here. You may only see a picture of my yard but it'll give you a preview of what's coming.

Thanks again to everyone who made the new camera possible!

So, Don now that you have the $$$ for the "dream cam", are there any particular "extras" that you'd like to add to the project to make it just that much better? Think about it and throw it up on the board, I for one have not donated yet, but would like to add to the pot, I may just change (up) the amount depending on what else you may need? ;) :)

Don

Please let us know how things go with testing out the new camera. I have been thinking of upgrading the BearCam with a high resolution camera next spring. I can use the current camera for a different angle, perhaps with a view of the bear.

Then it will really be a BearCam!

Don,

When the time comes to install the new equipment at its permanent home at the Weirs, let me know if there's anything I can do and I'll be glad to help. If nothing else, I can at least hold the ladder!

Glad to hear the Web Cam goal has been reached. Along with many others I too enjoy the views (the Snake Eyes group page is a favorite). Others have mentioned the potential of a ZOOM lens on the new Weirs Cam. If that happens, are there plans for PAN and TILT mounting of the camera as well (or was that mentioned somewhere already and I missed it?)?

I look forward to the new view next season - with or without zoom/pan/tilt features.

Thanks so much Don. And thanks to all the participants who make this such a wonderful place on the internet.
