Those of you in the Lakes Region, and many other locales, who frequent Black's Paper and Gift Store in downtown Wolfeboro will be saddened to learn that "Bun" McBride died Saturday, November 20, 2010. He was 87 years old.

"Bun" was the early morning paperboy for close to 69 years, and you could count on him knowing which paper you favored, what kind of doggie treat your dog enjoyed, and that the Braves were going to (someday) win the pennant.

He will be missed. R. I. P.

Yes. Heard that as well today. He had a good soul. Funny guy too. Sad day indeed. :(

Oh, I am so very sad to hear that. I loved Bun. We kids always used to say "Bun, Bun the paperman" in a sort of singsongy voice when he delivered our Sunday paper in his green truck. A part of Wolfeboro's history has just died.

Was this the older gentlemen who worked the cash register in the mornings?

Yes, he worked there for years and years.

Yes, "Bun" was older, 87, and was usually in to work early, maybe 5 AM.

I was asked if I would post here to let anyone interested, that Bun's funeral will be Wed. at 2 P.M. at All Saint's Episcopal Church on South Main Street (just below Huggins Hospital). Black's Paper Store will be closed on Wed. until 4:30 P. M. , then they will open for an Open House to honor Bun's life. Everyone is invited. WOLFEBORO -- Bernard "Bun" McBride, 87 of South Main Street, died Nov. 20, 2010, at his home.

He was born in Wolfeboro, Jan. 16, 1923, to Headley and Kate (Strickland) McBride. He graduated from Brewster Academy in 1941 and was a lifelong resident of Wolfeboro.

In 1941, his father bought the Paper Store, now known as Black's Paper Store and Gift Shop, in Wolfeboro, and he worked there ever since. He also delivered Sunday newspapers to Alton, Farmington, Wolfeboro and Melvin Village for more than 50 years.

The Rotary Club of Wolfeboro honored him in 2004 as a Paul Harris Fellow.

He was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge, Bektash Temple, Kingswood Golf Club, enjoyed playing poker, cribbage, horse racing, was an avid hunter, fisherman and Atlanta Braves fan.

He was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn (Clough) McBride, in 1975.

He is survived by five nephews, Donald McBride of Wolfeboro, Russell McBride of Augusta, Ga., Paul McBride of Wolfeboro, John McBride of Eaton and James Clough of Wolfeboro; and two nieces, Mary Ann Milanese of Pike, and Joan Vallee of Uncasville, Conn.

SERVICES: Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at All Saints Church in Wolfeboro. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. A gathering will follow at Blacks Paper Store.
