I've often wondered why the large cell tower on Prospect mountain doesn't have a light on the top of it at night. I see that others in town do, so what makes that one different? Maybe the light burned out and nobody wants to go up there to replace it. :)

Forget to replace it!!! The FAA would have their hide. Usually towers under 200 feet don't need markings or light, except if its in close proximity to an airport. You can check the specific CFRs if you are curious.

The FAA would have the say as to wether an "Obstruction" would be required to have lights..and What Kind of lights. Low Intensity lights might be acceptable..or High Intensity.

The height above ground level (AGL) ...and... are there any higher obstructions nearby which would negate the need for lights on a lower object...?? I think anyone contemplating erecting a high object would normally consult the FAA . NB

Prospect Mountain? You mean the one near Mount Washington? How can you see that from here?:D

I'm sure Gearhead is asking about Prospect Mountain in Alton.

Talking about towers, the tall one on the side of Belknap Mountain and next to Gunstock Mountain just got replaced about two weeks ago. The old one came down and a new one, about the same height, got built just next to it and uphill. For a few days, there were two towers standing, maybe 50-yards apart. The new lights look less yellow, and more strobe-light white for the Nascar drivers in their private jets that jet into Laconia Airport, LAA, or something like that (I think, and not to be confused w/ LAX in Los Angeles, California). At night the lights are red as opposed to strobe-light white which is probably something to do with airplanes not wanting to crash into the mountain side.

This is what happens when one spends too much time looking at flashing lights....you start to lose your mind! ... ...
