I just wanted to take a minute to remind everyone that today is the 235th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps

As the father of a Marine 1st Lt and the father-in-law of a V-22 Osprey Crew member, both serving in the combat zone, I have come to know that today is a special day, if you are a Marine.

To all the Marines who call the Lakes Region home, Happy 235th

The message pasted below was in my e-mail this morning

AT SEA AND ASHORE, MARINES HAVE SUCCEEDED IN EVERY CLIME AND PLACE. WHERE HARDSHIP AND ADVERSITY HAVE OFTEN BEEN THE COMMON THREAD. TO OUR LOVED ONES WHO ENDURE THE MANY DIFFICULTIES THAT COME WITH BEING PART OF THE MARINE FAMILY, I WANT TO EXTEND MY SINCEREST THANKS FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE AND ALL YOU CONTINUE TO DO. ... HAPPY 235TH BIRTHDAY, MARINES. JAMES F. AMOS, GENERAL, COMMANDANT OF THE MARINE CORPS

U.S. Marine Corps Hymn

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.
Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

Just think, 235 years ago they took a handful of Seaman Recruits from the United States Navy and said today you will be a new outfit. And it will fall under the DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY. We will give you special uniforms and give you wooden rifles to practice with, (if you get good we will give you real ones) (maybe even with bullets.)

Never the less HAPPY BIRTHDAY
