It is hard to believe a human being could do something like that. The word scum is too polite. :(

Who in the world would do something so disgusting! I hope that the person or persons that did this are caught quickly.

People are disgusting. I was recently thinking about how nice it would be to put a solar light at my mom's grave but it kills me knowing that would likely attract more attention from the cemetery thieves. We have a big problem with thefts at our local cemetery here in MA and have been hit several times. If it's not nailed down they take it.

One family/town in MA finally struck back after multiple thefts and added a GPS to flowers: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/news/23602806/detail.html

Hopefully more of these people get caught and ridiculed because cemetery thieves are the lowest of low!

I have faith that there are some good New Hampshire citizens who would gladly serve some "off-the-record justice" to these people should they get caught striking again.

Maybe we can give something back to him. Anyone live in the area (it's the cemetery near the Margate) that has a spare flag and metal pole lying around?

I am going by there tomorrow. I might just stop by and see what is there. I'll bring a flag or two with me. Like said need to find out what is allowed at the site.

Just a guess, but in past incidents of cemetary vanalism - it's kids.

So if a minor does get caught - what is the correct punishment?

Make them clean and polish every headstone in the cemetary. With a toothbrush. I'll supply the toothbrushes. As many as are needed.;)

And then the parents should take serious action!

Make them stand on the main road holding a sign that says "I tipped over grave stones as a senseless prank, and got caught". This will give passerbys a chance to voice their frustrations at them

We've had a recent incident in Western Mass where individuals have stolen the brass/bronze markers off the graves of veterans and sold them for scrap metal. :fire:

Charges were dropped because the scrap metal dealer would not testify for fear of incriminating himself.:rolleye1::eek2:

Some dirt bags get off very easy.

Probably more due to reprisal from the local scum.....:rolleye2:

my deepest sympathy to the family. Before I say what I am saying, I do not condone the removal from the cemetary. That being said, I know that there is a rule in some cemetary's that material cannot be left at the graves for longer than a period of time after internment, and at other times.

I am sure you have checked with the management of the cemetary. They might have taken it, and perhaps are holding it for you. Well, I could hope couldn't I.

I was thinking the same thing. NB

It was not the cemetary. I placed two small American flags, and a small bouquet of flowers from Shaws at the site tonight on my home. There were several other things like flowers, stuffed animals and things there. I doubt the cemetary employees will touching that site for a while after this whole thing. I agree though, the site must be maintained, but I think mowing is done for the year. I think the parents just want the book and photos back.
RIP Pfc. Nicholas Cournoyer. Thank you for your ultimate service to this country.
