It was so windy that there were whitecaps on Berry Pond in Moultonborough.

It was extremely windy along our shoreline all day today. We had large waves coming in from the northwest and our home weather station recorded a wind gust of 42 mph at 2:21 PM this afternoon. There was apparently a bass tournament on the lake today and we saw a number of bass boats fighting the large waves for most of the day. Not a day I would have wanted to be out there in a boat.

Men Swim To Safety After Boat Capsizes On Newfound Lake

Waves Capsize Canoe On Newfound Lake

BRISTOL, N.H. -- Three men canoeing on Newfound Lake were forced to swim to a nearby island Saturday after nearly 4-foot waves capsized their boat.

Officials at the Bristol fire department said that a witness saw a canoe with three men turn over on the lake shortly before 3:30 p.m. Saturday.

The men were found at about 4:15 p.m. on Mayhew Island. They told emergency responders that they had swam to the island.

The overturned boat was later found washed up at Pike's Point.

All three of the men, believed to be in their 20s, had been wearing life jackets, police said. They were evaluated by medical personnel and released.

As a point of reference, just South of here, winds on Champlain of over 60 mph were recorded. Wave heights of 9 to 10 feet.

I'm pretty glad my boat is stored :D

Here is the chart from 10/16. My wife reported seeing very rough conditions in Alton Bay with fishing boats keeping to the lower west side between Sandy Point and the Mt. Wash dock.

Yesterday was the roughest I have seen it out on Welch Island. I had to make a trip to the Glendale docks from Welch and encountered 4' plus swells! It was like that all day!

Still a nice day to be out on the island however! :)

Before columbus day weekend I bought my last two six gallon tanks of gas, boat was to be pulled on the 11th, well sunday night we were able to go out and use one tank up. and then delivered the boat to Alton Bay on Monday. I returned home and came back up on Thursday to close the cottage. Wind, rain, and was I glad that the boats were put away. Thanks to my son, the dock was taken down on Wednesday. Had I done my normal routine, I would have been taking the boat to the bay on sat morning. I do not think I would have enjoyed that ride. The winds woke me up about three AM, and I did not go back to sleep. By the way, Rich Fiore has taken good care of me and my boat and has not taken me for a ride.:)
