Who replaces transmissions well?

I am struggling to find a way to get a transmission replaced in my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has 52,000 miles and is in great condition in every other way as far as I know. I am near Center Harbor but am told that the good person who was near this area is now gone? Anyone know a good place who does good work?

I was given a name over in Rochester....Robert's Transmission and plan to call I guess. I don't even know if the car would be able to make a drive like that? How would one arrange to have a 4 wheel drive towed if it does not seem able to be driven? (Wouldn't it need to be flatbedded?) Would it be costly? Help!!!

Does anyone know a good transmission place that is nearer?

Do you have triple A? They provide towing.

Does your Cherokee have a neutral on the transfer case? Cherokee's are popular as towed vehicles behind motorhomes because some can be towed with all 4 wheels on the ground.

If it has a neutral on the transfer case, you can rent a tow bar.

Do you have triple A? They provide towing.

I do not have triple A. Had it at one time but it did not work out for me.

It's a little ways from you in C. Harbor but I take my cars to Andy Wallace at Wallace's Automotive Repair on Stockbridge Corner Rd. (875-5188). His prices are more than fair and he's always done a good job for us - we have a Jeep Liberty he works on, as well as a Chrysler Town & Country and a Dodge Intrepid (we are Mopar!)... Call to make an appointment - and he if can't do it, he'll know someone who does. Nice man to do business with - highly recommended!

Problem now is how to get this 99 Jeep over to Rochester. Will try to find a towing company to flat bed it over I guess. Hope I am making the right decision but one can only do the best that they can at any moment in time.

Generally a transmission shop will tow the vehicle for free if they are going to get the overhaul work. JMO

They would have to drive about an hour from Rochester, NH to Moultonborough, NH and then an hour more to get the car towed? Is that what you mean? I have no experience at all with towing cars or replacing a transmission.

Do yourself a favor and hire a flat bed. Towing a car with a one size fits all tow bar is not something that someone with little or no experience should do. If the shop offers free towing it is built into the price somewhere. You can only work for free as long as your savings last. After that you have to make a profit if you want to eat.

Trust me on this.......I never for one second considered towing this car. How do I find a company that flat beds to Rochester? It is about 48 miles from me.

I'll second this recomendation. He is also a supporter of the snowmobile club here in town helping us move our equipment.

Thank you so much. I called and he is able to do it! Doug is a nice fellow for sure. I called and got his wife and remembered that they used to plow my driveway at one time.

Doug Murphy did indeed flatbed the 99 Jeep Grande Cherokee over to Robert's Transmission in Rochester and all went well. Will let you know what happens with the car but please keep your fingers crossed.
