Repair Shop for 10hp Outboard

I have a 5-year-old, 10hp, 2 stroke Johnson outboard that I think has a fuel pump problem. I would like to have it serviced but I am not sure who in the region is good with small engines. Can anyone recommend a Marina or engine repair shop on the north-west side of the lake from Center Harbor to West Alton.

I have an 1973 Johnson - 85HP. Not worth spending a lot of money on to have fixed. However, it runs...but will not go into a high speed. Anyone ever had this and if so, any ideas what to look for ?

I second Dave's. He is a very competent outboard mechanic as well as inboard. I had my grandfather's old Elgin in the cellar for decades. I decided to motorized a RIB for the grankids. Took it to Dave's and the outboard ran like a charm!

It is a little bit more of a hike, but Wards boat shop in Ossipee has a young man name Matt working for them now.... He is very good with small outboards.

I'm not terribly experienced with old outboards, but if you went a period of time when you ran the engine, but never at a high speed, your main fuel jet may be clogged. Either that or you can't supply enough fuel during peak demand (kink in fuel line, clogged fuel filter, etc).

OP maybe we can talk you through it. What are your "symptoms?"

Engines that have been running fine for decades are now having "fuel-delivery" problems after the ethanol flap. Try borrowing a different (new, or proven) fuel tank before investing in a mechanic's repair.

Thanks guys for your help. I took the advice of Broken Glass & BroadHopper and took my 10hp outboard to Dave's Motorboat Shop. I was very satisfied with the service. I am putting around the lake again!

The reason I did not post the problem found with my engine was that I felt a little stupid about not finding the problem myself. It turned out to be something very simple; so simple I completely overlooked it. The vent valve on the fuel tank was found to be partially plugged. I found the fuel filter clean and the spark plug looked damp when I did my troubleshooting. I never noticed anything different when I pumped the priming bulb in the fuel line. It stayed full. Dave diagnosed my problem by hooked my engine up to his fuel tank. Just goes to show, check and ensure you eliminate the simple things before moving on to the more complex things.

...APS brings up an important point with regards to the "new & improved" gas...It can deteriorate older fuel hoses and can wreck havoc on the fuel delivery system...including older non-metal fuel tanks...not to mention it's affinity/propensity for attracting water over a short period of time..good filters/separators are a MUST and check them often...I concur that DAVE's is my first choice for anything outboard...
